FACEBOOK MURDER SUSPECT SHOT,KILLED HIMSELF AFTER PURSUIT

Steve Stephens, the suspect in the Cleveland, Ohio, FACEBOOK killing, shot and killed himself after a brief pursuit in Erie County, Pennsylvania, this morning, the Pennsylvania State Police said. Stephens allegedly killed 74-year-old Robert Godwin Sr. in Cleveland Sunday afternoon and later posted a video of the killing on Facebook, according to police. Stephens, who was considered armed and dangerous, had been on the run since Sunday. The manhunt was nationwide and billboards around the country have been plastered with Stephens' photo. Shortly after 11 a.m. today, Pennsylvania State Police received a tip that the vehicle police were looking for in connection to Stephens was in a McDonald’s parking lot near Erie, Pennsylvania, about 100 miles northeast of Cleveland, Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams said at a news conference this morning. 20 DEAD,THOUSANDS SAVED OFF THE LIBYAN COAST

Thousands of migrants have been saved from the sea near Libya  between Friday and Sunday during the Easter by rescue workers, but 20 died, including an eight-year-old.According to Africa Review, more than 2,000 people were rescued on Friday and 3,000 on Saturday in dozens of separate rescues, the Italian Coast Guard said. But at least 20 drowned as aid workers struggled to rescue more than 1,500 migrants in one ongoing operation.An eight-year-old boy was among the dead, rescue workers said. The Migrant Offshore Aid Station (Moas) said its rescue started in the early hours of Saturday and had continued non-stop into Sunday afternoon.The group said it had rescued at least 453 people, but more than 1,000 remained in danger. TERRORIST'S EX-WIFE ARRESTED

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) says it has arrested the former wife of Mamman Nur,a factional Boko Haram leader in Borno state.Ibrahim Abdullahi, NSCDC commandant in the state, disclosed this while speaking with reporters on Tuesday. He said his men arrested two female suspects in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Friday. Abdullahi said at first they were suspected to be suicide bombers but that findings revealed that the two suspects were from Sambisa forest, and were heading to Kangarwa camp to meet the factional leader of the sect.  “One of the suspect claimed that she is the ex-wife of the factional Boko Haram leader,” he said. “They said they escaped from a camp in Sambisa forest after Nigerian troops attack the terrorists.”  Abdullahi said the suspects were abandoned by the Boko Haram commander who asked them to wait in Maiduguri pending the time he would provide them accommodation.

Amilcar Henriquez shot dead in his Panama home . Police in Panama say national team soccer player Amilcar Henriquez has been shot dead while leaving his home. The press chief for Panama’s National Police says the killing happened Saturday in the country’s Colon province. Authorities say a gunman shot the 33-year-old midfielder several times. Another two people were wounded. The player died at a nearby hospital. President Juan Carlos Varela has condemned the killing on his Twitter account. He is calling for authorities in Colon to find those responsible. Henriquez was part of the Panama team that is trying to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He played in the last 20 minutes of Panama’s 1-1 tie with the United States last month and has appeared 75 times for his country.

GUNMEN KILL NEWLY APPOINTED LOCAL GOVERNMENT SECRETARY

Mr Ime Atakpa. Four unidentified gunmen have killed the newly sworn-in Ukanafun Local Government Council Secretary in Akwa Ibom, Mr Ime Atakpa. Atakpa was shot when he was in his farm in his backyard at Ukanafun on Sunday. His wife, Imo, who confirmed this to newsmen, said they went to Ukanafun for Easter service.She said prior to the church’s service they decided to check on some pigs in the farm.While she and the children were in the house, she heard gunshots.When she tried to find where the sound of the gunfire emanated, she saw four masked men walking away from the compound. The Akwa Ibom Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu, also confirmed the incident.Okechukwu said four gunmen shot the late council secretary in the stomach.He added that he died on the way to hospital. “The man was in his farm in Ukanafun LGA when four unidentified gunmen shot him,” he said.

The then-11-year-old, who was also severely beaten, was reportedly at work with her mother because she had a dentist appointment that day. Prosecuting attorneys argued at a 1996 trial that then-31-year-old Jack Jones Jr. had visited Phillips' office twice on the day of her death. The first time, he was looking for work. The second, he returned with a BB pistol, latex gloves and wire. (In later hearings, the attorneys said Jones saw Phillips while painting a sign nearby.)

The state’s attorney general and commissioner for justice, Adeniji Kazeem made this known at a news conference today Tuesday, April 18th. Adeniji described the development as an instruction from the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode. He said that the state had begun reviewing the matter after prison officials complained of the highhandedness of some death row inmates who felt they had certain rights which excluded them from being executed.     The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Response Team (IRT) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, has arrested a ‘high-profile thief’ identified as Augustine Joseph, who specialises in impersonating journalists to steal gadgets and defraud dignitaries at events.             The suspect who posed as an employee of Linda Ikeji blog, with an identity card bearing the name Michael Mordi, was arrested and paraded last week for robbing unsuspecting members of public of their belongings at public events. Joseph had walked into one of the new generation bank’s head-office at Victoria Island, Lagos, for an event on March, 30, and made away with a Samsung Galaxy S6 phone and other items belonging to guests at the event. FATUMA MOHAMED MASOU     One of Kenya’s most wanted terror suspects, Fatuma Mohamed Masou, who had a Sh2 million bounty on her head, was found dead in Kedong, Kenya. ABDUCTORS OF TURKISH EXPATRIATES DEMAND N200MILLION AS RANSOM

Abductors of two Turkish expatriates in Akwa Ibom have demanded N200 million to release them.The victims were abducted on April 10 from their Airstrip hotel room in Eket Local Government Area of the state. A security source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Eket that the abductors had been in touch with the BKS Construction Company in Onna Local Government Area where the expatriates work. He said that the abductors contacted the construction company and demanded N200 million as ransom to release them. “The abductors have demanded the sum of N200 million before the victims could be released to the company.“The company is negotiating with the abductors to secure the release of the victims,” the source said. According to the source, the firm is offering N500,000. The State Police Public Relations (PPRO), ASP Chilly Ikechukwu, said the police were not aware of the ransom.

PALESTINIAN PRISONERS IN ISRAELI JAILS BEGIN HUNGER STRIKE

Hundreds of Palestinians held in Israeli jails are beginning a mass hunger strike in protest against their conditions. The action is being led by Marwan Barghouti, a Palestinian leader jailed by Israel for life for five murders. Barghouti, a key figure in Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah faction, has been touted as a possible future successor to Mr Abbas.There are fears the protest could fuel tensions across the occupied West Bank. According to Israel’s prison service, 1,187 Palestinians in Israeli prisons are joining the hunger strike, which coincides with the annual Palestinian Prisoners Day.The issue of Palestinians held in Israeli jails is an ongoing source of tension between the two sides. Palestinians regard the detainees as political prisoners, many of whom have been convicted of attacks against Israeli and other offences. Others are detained under so-called Administrative Detention, which allows suspects to be held without charge for six-month intervals.

Swaziland King Mswati III has issued a decree at his Easter meeting with local pastors at the Engabezweni Royal Residence banning divorce in the southern African nation. Africa Review quoted the Times of Swaziland newspaper that King Mswati told the pastors to educate the people that there was no pulling out once they got married.👳👳 “In our culture, once you marry someone, there is no turning back,” the Times of Swaziland quoted King Mswati as saying.
