The federal government has approved the closure of five foreign missions and embassies, minister of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama said. Onyeama told newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, May 25, 2017. The minister, who did not mention the embassies or missions, said the process for closure was underway and was also subject to the approval of the president. "We do not want to indicate the embassies that will be closed yet because we are in the process of submitting the proposals, the cost analysis and also the political analysis we did to the president. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially confirmed that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state registered twice for permanent voter’s card. The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken over some properties traced to a former special adviser to Dan Abia,erstwhile managing director of Niger Delta Commission (NDDC) Mr George Turnah. The anti-graft agency said the confiscation was done on Thursday, May 25 following an interim forfeiture order granted it by a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. Gunmen suspected to be militants on Thursday morning invaded Lagos State Model College, Igbo Nla, Epe, Lagos, abducting the principals and some students. A beautician, identified only as Oby, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly beating her maid, Miracle, to death on Lateef Aregbe Street, Ago Palace Way, Okota, in the Isolo area of the state. RITUALS - COURT REMANDS 2 IN PRISON CUSTODY

An Ile-Ife Magistrate Court has remanded one Isreal Ojimi, 38, said to be a prophet and Bose Adetimikan, 27, in prison custody over alleged rituals. The prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 20, 2017, around 10:00 pm at Mosarajo area via Ile-Ife. According to him, they had armed themselves with some charms in the form of a garment with an intention to commit felony. He further explained that they conducted themselves in a manner that caused mayhem, adding that their behavior was against the norms and ethics of the nation and had contravened sections 213, 249 (d) and 516 of the State Penal Code. Although defence counsel, Mr Alaba Awoseemo pleaded for their bail in most libral terms, the plea was not accepted. Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, however, asked the counsel to put the plea in writing and ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody. 32 SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS AND ROBBERS PARADED

The police in Kogi, yesterday, parade 32 suspects arrested over offences bothering on kidnapping, robbery, illegal possession of fire arms, vandalism and unlawful possession of substance, among others. Egypt on Thursday blocked 21 websites, including Qatari news network Al Jazeera and Islamist-affiliated platforms, following in the footsteps of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Among those blocked since Wednesday evening is the website of the now-banned Muslim Brotherhood, Ikhwan Online, according to a report in the privately owned Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper. All websites blocked contain material that “support terrorism and extremism as well as publish lies,” a security source was quoted as saying. The Arabic edition of the Huffington Post was blocked, although the English-language version was accessible. The independent Cairo-based Mada Masr was another site blocked. Two siblings said to be members of a seven-man robbery gang have been arrested by the police in Ogun State for allegedly breaking into a Coca-Cola warehouse in the Ota area of the state. The suspects – Ikechukwu Onwe, 40, and 35-year-old Chukwunma Onwe – and five others reportedly stole several pieces of heavy duty batteries, truck engines, air cleaners, radiators, and cartons of insecticide, valued at N30m from the warehouse.
