KOGI MAGISTRATE SAM UNWUCHOLA KIDNAPPED BY GUNMEN

A Magistrate with Kogi State Judiciary, Mr Sam Unwuchola, has been abducted by unknown gunmen on Ajaokuta-Lokoja road. An eye-witness who prefers anonymity, said that the magistrate who was returning from Onyedega, his station, in company of a friend, was kidnapped at Jimgbe, near Salem University, Lokoja at about 7pm Thursday. The eyewitness said the Magistrate and his friend ran into the hoodlums who opened fire on them, forcing them to stop. The bandits, according to him, shot at the Magistrate’s friend who was on the passenger’s seat, adding that the bullet had almost removed the left eye and shattering his cheek bone. The wounded friend of Unwuchola whose identity is not immediately known, he added, was rushed to an undisclosed medical facility in Lokoja for treatment. MAN CHARGED FOR ASSAULTING 9 YEAR OLD BOY

Nurudeen Alowole, 48, has been arraigned before an Ogba  Magistrates’ Court  for alleged assault. He was said to have placed a hot spoon on the left and right hands of 9-year-old Alowole Ibrahim. Raphael Donny, the prosecuting officer,  told the court that the defendant committed the offence in July 2017 at 4 Power Line Street, Isheri area of Lagos.    Donny said that the offence was punishable under Section 171 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.  The defendant pleaded not guilty to the lone count charge of assault.  Davies Abegunde, the presiding Magistrate, however granted the defendant a bail of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum. She adjourned the case till October 25, 2017 for mention.

UPDATE ON MONKEY POX OUTBREAK

  The Bayelsa State health authorities in collaboration with World Health Organisation (WHO) and the National Centre for Disease Control have assured that the outbreak is being effectively handled. Victims have been properly quarantined in an isolated centre at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri and are being appropriately monitored.   The Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu, said the health authorities have embarked on a statewide sensitisation campaign on how to identify victims. According to him, the virus was first seen in monkey, but could also be found in all bush animals such as rats, squirrels and antelopes.   The secretions from dead animals are highly contagious.   The commissioner listed the symptoms of monkey pox as severe headache, fever and back pain among others, and that most worrisome of all the signs were rashes bigger than those caused by chicken pox.   He assured that there is no reason for
