ARMED ROBBERS INVADE ESTATE,CART AWAY VALUABLES

Some residents of Tella Estate in Akobo area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital were injured early Saturday morning when a seven-man gang of armed robbers invaded the area and carted away their valuables. It was gathered that the robbers arrived the estate around midnight and carried out house-to-house attacks on the residents. Some of the residents who were injured were taken to undisclosed hospitals for treatment.A night guard identified as Victor also sustained machete cuts on the head.  Chairman of the landlords association, Mr. Basiru Shodeyinde who briefed journalists stated that the robbers arrived the area at 12 a.m, adding that the landlords had reported the incident at Akobo Police Station.According to him, the valuables the robbers stole included laptops, undisclosed cash, mobile phones and iPad. Armed robbers operating on a motorcycle Monday shot and killed a circulation representative of the Sun Newspapers, Fabian Obi, in his office in Onitsha, Anambra State at about 10.25 am. It was gathered that the robbers may have acted on an information as the circulation staff was just making preparation to move monies realised from the sales of the previous days newspapers. A source in the old market road area of Onitsha where the Sun Newspapers has its office told our reporter of the incident, saying he was rushing to the hospital where the deceased was rushed to. He said, “They ( robbers) have killed our circulation man . I’m rushing to the hospital where he was taken to. But, I can confirm to you the incident happened and that our circulation rep is dead.” Our correspondent gathered that the robbers after shooting Obi, three times around the chest took away money in his possession. TERRORIST GROUP ATTACK MILITARY BASE IN NIGERIA AHEAD OF INDEPENDENCE DAY

Scores of Boko Haram militants were killed on Friday evening during a failed attempt to attack military Barrack in Bama town of Bama local government area of Borno State. DAILY POST learnt that the attackers engaged the military within the hours of 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., before they were repelled. A security source told DAILY POST that the attackers burnt down one military vehicle and also killed a police officer while retreating after they were overwhelmed by the military. “The Boko Haram elements tried to enter Bama Army barracks but they didn’t succeed; the military killed many of the terrorists,” the source hinted. Attempt, however, to get the military to speak on the report did not yield result as the deputy director, army public relations, theatre command of the operation lafiya dole, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu did not pick his calls when contacted.

LAS VEGAS - GUNMAN KILLS 20,INJURES 100 NEAR MANDALAY BAY

  A gunman in a Las Vegas hotel opened fire Sunday night at a concert. The shooting happened near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. At least 20 people were killed and more than 100 others injured, hospital officials said. Thousands flee as SWAT units searched for the attacker who was later shot dead. Video posted online showed the country singer Jason Aldean performing outside the hotel at Route 91 Harvest, a country music festival, interrupted by the sound of automatic gunfire. The music stopped, and concertgoers ducked for cover. “Get down,” one shouted. “Stay down,” another voice was heard screaming. Shortly before midnight the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that “one suspect is down,” and soon thereafter the police said they did not believe there were any more active gunmen. EVANS EVENTUALLY HANGS SELF IN JAIL

NEW ORLEANS — Authorities in Louisiana say a man accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend, fatally shooting her parents and then torching their home has apparently hanged himself. News outlets report that Jefferson Parish Coroner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich says 29-year-old Jatory Evans apparently hanged himself Wednesday at the Jefferson Parish Jail. Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Glen Boyd says he was found around 4:25 p.m. and pronounced dead later. Authorities say Evans stabbed his estranged girlfriend, 20-year-old Sydney Hanson, in the bedroom of a home on Nov. 7 before igniting the room while she was still alive. She was seven months pregnant. He’s also accused of shooting and stabbing Hanson’s mother, Samantha Hanson, and shooting her father, Dwayne Hanson, in the head.Cvitanovich says his office will conduct an autopsy on Evans.
