RUSSIA SAYS IT'S AIRSTRIKE OVER SYRIA HAS KILLED TOP ISIS COMMANDERS

A Russian air strike has killed around 40 Islamic State fighters, including four senior commanders, near the eastern Syrian city of Deir al-Zor, Russia's defence ministry said on Friday. The strike, carried out by Su-34 fighter-bombers and Su-35 fighters, came after an intelligence report on Sept. 5 showed that top Islamic State commanders were meeting at a secret underground command post in the vicinity of Deir al-Zor, the ministry said on its Facebook page. Among those killed was Abu Muhammad al-Shimali, who oversees foreign fighters at IS, it said. The defence ministry also said it had evidence that Gulmurod Khalimov, Islamic State's "minister of war", was present at the meeting in the bunker and had been fatally wounded in the strike and evacuated to the al-Muhasan area, 20 km (13 miles) southeast of Deir al-Zor. COURT REMANDS 3 `GOOD SAMARITANS’ OVER ALLEGED MURDER

A Jos High Court has remanded three men – Tasiu Mohammed, 21, Saidu Mohammed, 19, and Umar Shehu, 23 – in Jos prison, over the alleged murder of their `guest'. The suspects, all of Bukuru, in Jos, who are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, robbery, theft and culpable homicide, were also alleged to have stolen their victim's money after killing him. Mantu, prayed the court for time to enable the ministry of justice take over the matter from the police. Four persons including an Abu Dhabi-based Rita Chinenye Ani and her elder sister, Ngozi Stella Nnamani Ani were today arraigned before a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja for engaging in human trafficking. The others charged by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, are Ozigi Abdulkarim and Princewill James. The four defendants (two males and two females) were arraigned before the court presided over by Justice Yusuf Halilu by NAPTIP represented by the Chief Legal Officer, Mr. Aondona Orti. The quartet were slammed with a 10-count charge bordering on trafficking on human beings contrary to Sections 13, 14, 18 and 26(b) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015. The police in Anambra State have arrested 28 suspects over cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and other related vices in the state. The suspects, Ebeje Nnamdi, a deserter from 20 mechanized Battalion, Taraba State and another, were arrested at various locations of the state. Nnamdi is suspected to be the trainer of Biafra Security Service. He was arrested alongside three others for their alleged involvement in armed robbery in Iyi Oji area of Anambra on Wednesday. Parading the suspects on Thursday at the police headquarters in Amawbia, the state Commissioner of police, Garba Umar, said one of the suspects, Chukwudi Nwabundo, invaded the house of one Peter Chukwuemeka of Isiokwe village, Aguleri and abducted one John Ifediora of Umuganagu village to Iyi Oji shrine where he was subjected to torture. A mentally unstable woman has given birth to a bouncing baby boy in Sapele, Delta state, Sapele Oghenek reports. The lady was said to have been assisted by a roasted plantain seller who noticed that she was in labor. The Good Samaritan however noticed that the placenta refused to come out, prompting her to call for help. A doctor, Ugochuckwu, later arrived the scene and assisted her in delivering the baby safely, before being taken to the hospital, as her family were located. The baby has since been named Excel.

GUNMEN WAYLAY BUS IN RIVERS, KIDNAP 19 OCCUPANTS

Kidnappers struck again in Rivers State on Thursday, waylaying an 18-seater bus and abducting the 19 occupants of the vehicle, including the driver. It was gathered that the incident happened on Isiokpo-Elele Road in the Ikwerre Local Government Area, about 30 kilometres from Agip Junction in Port Harcourt, where the bus branded, Rivers Mass Transit Company, took off. Sources explained that the kidnappers, who were 10 in number and heavily armed, blocked the road and forced the bus to stop as soon as it (bus) approached them. Thursday's abduction would be the third time in one month that passengers would be waylaid on the road by hoodlums.
