Two young men were on Thursday stoned to death in Aliede area of Benue State for allegedly stealing a motorcycle. One of the victims was identified as Labister, a native of Tiv tribe, while the other whose identity could not be ascertained at the moment hailed from Idoma speaking part of the state. We learnt that the suspects were caught with a stolen motorcycle Thursday afternoon and were killed by angry community youths. An eyewitness said that efforts by the community elders to rescue the young men and hand them over to the police were futile as the mob insisted on killing them so it could serve as a deterrent to others. Magistrate Goolam Bowa agreed with the state that Mario-Ceasar Yela was a flight risk and that releasing him on bail was not in the interest of justice. Yela is accused of murdering the children while visiting them in South Africa. The Wynberg Magistrate’s Court heard that on April 6 he had been involved in a car accident.
