A 25-year-old unemployed, Sunday Salami, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday for alleged rape. The accused is facing a charge of allegedly raping his neighbour’s daughter. The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 11 in his residence at Buraimo Street, Bariga in Lagos State. Ogu said that the accused invited a 14-year-old girl, daughter of his neighbor, into his room on the pretext that he was sending her on an errand. “The accused shut the door at her and raped her,’’ he said. Ogu said that the girl told her mother, who reported the case to the police which led to the arrest of the accused. The offence contravened Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The law provides that any person, who contravenes the section “is guilty of a felony and liable to imprisonment for life’’. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty. Authorities became aware of Ahmad Al-Shamri in 2014 after he uploaded a series of videos reflecting his views on social media. He was subsequently arrested on charges of atheism and blasphemy, faced trial and was sentenced to death in February 2015. Al-Shamri is reportedly in his early 20s and comes from the city of Hafar Al-Batin, located in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. The defendant initially pleaded insanity, saying that he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he made the comments, Hala Dosari, an advisory board member of Human Rights Watch (HRW) told the Washington Post. An 8-year old girl, identified as Ifeyinwa has suffered an horrific reaction after she was administered an injection from a nurse. According to reports, Ifeyinwa got down with a cold some weeks back, and she was taken to a nearby clinic. Apparently, the nurse on duty gave her an injection.. The operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command on Monday last week nabbed two teenagers fleeing the Abuja abodes of their parents and re-united them with the parents on Friday. The teenagers, Chidubem Amaechi, 13 and Chinedu Onyebuchi, 13 were apprehended by the RRS operatives of Monday morning after alighting from an Abuja bus at Ojodu Berger, Lagos. A 6-man kidnap gang has been smashed by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly luring a man, Femi Olatunji, from his home in the Isheri area of Ogun State to Igbokoda, Ondo State, where they killed him after collecting a ransom.  The suspects’ names were given as Fadeni Henry, Lebile Olatunji, Ehuwa Oririe, Olotu Tosin, Oluwole Ohunayo, and Peter Omogbemi. The leader of the gang, 23-year-old Henry, had reportedly struck a relationship with the victim on the social media, and allegedly lured him to Igbokoda, the gang’s base, on Friday, May 12, 2017.  The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, said the wife of the victim had reported the kidnap of her husband to the police.
