ZIMBABWEAN GOVT TO BAN WEEKDAYS SALES OF ALCOHOL AND TO PREGNANT WOMEN

The Zimbabwean government is set to enact a law barring the sale of alcohol during some days of the week, some hours of the day and to expectant women, in a bid to curb abuse of the beverage.

The National Alcohol Policy is said to be the brainchild of former Zimbabwe health minister Timothy Stamps, now serving as health adviser in the office of the president and cabinet.

The new law will also target motor vehicle drivers, who will face arrest if found driving with blood alcohol concentration levels going beyond 0,08 per 100ml. Retailers found selling the drink to expectant women will also be arrested.

The policy also proposes that any alcohol advertisements should be done further than 100 metres from a road intersection, school, clinic, hospital, church and old people's homes.

Critics of the proposed regulations have however taken issue with its impact on profitability for retailers. They say it would force many of them out of business in a country where unemployment is a big problem. Proponents however say it will help impart behavior change and curb alcohol abuse.

A young teenage couple accused of snatching their newborn baby from hospital have been briefly reunited with their daughter after five days apart. Jayden Lavender, 14, and fiancée Jenifer Morrison, 15, smuggled three-day-old Aria out of the hospital in Sydney at 12.30am on Thursday. Their disappearance sparked a huge search before the pair were found safe and well 16 hours later after spending a night camping with the infant. SAPULPA, Okla. - Police say an elementary school teacher was arrested on multiple charges after accidentally leaving her Facebook page open on a school computer. Officers were called to Holmes Park Elementary School on Monday after a teacher found Megan Sloan's Facebook page open on a computer, according to KOKI-TV. Authorities say the page featured a conversation where Sloan reportedly asked about using and selling heroin. Detectives told KOKI that during the investigation, Sloan allegedly admitted to pawning two iPads that belonged to the school district. She also reportedly admitted to using money from field trips for gas and drugs.
