AMERICA ; 4 YEAR OLD KILLED IN DEADLY HIT AND RUN

A 4-year-old girl was walking to school at the time of deadly hit-and-run in DeKalb County, police said.

The crash occurred just before 7 a.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of North Indian Creek Drive, DeKalb County police Lt. Lonzy Robertson said. That is near Indian Creek Elementary School in Clarkston, where the child, identified as Lun Thang, was a student.

Thang, her brother and mother were in a crosswalk when a dark, older model vehicle, possibly a Toyota or a Honda, hit the child, DeKalb County police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell said.

"She went airborne and hit (a PT Cruiser), Campbell said.

Thang later died. Her mother and brother were not injured.

The sedan that caused the crash "lost control and stopped momentarily but then left the scene," Campbell said.

Chopper footage showed several police and emergency vehicles on the scene immediately after the accident, which temporarily shut down lanes north of Memorial Drive.

Police are working to get footage from cameras in the area.

They are asking car repair shops and others to be on the lookout for a sedan with front-end damage.

"We really want to impress upon this driver to come forward," Campbell said.

She urged any driver who hits a person to "hold yourself accountable.

"If you see something that you've done wrong, stop. Help. It could have been an accident. But leaving the scene, it makes it worse."
