GOVERNOR LENDS VOICE TO THE ESCAPE OF RITUALIST FROM POLICE CUSTODY

The Rivers state government has condemned the escape, from police custody, of Ifeanyi Dike, a suspected rapist and killer of Victory Chikanso, an eight-year-old girl.

The Rivers state deputy governor, Dr Ipalibo Banigo, in a statement on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, asked the Police and other law enforcement agen­cies to ensure that the suspect is re-arrested and brought to justice without delay.

She stressed that the report that the suspect es­caped from the hands of the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) is "totally unaccept­able and very embarrass­ing."

Banigo who condoled with the bereaved family on the gruesome murder of their daughter, said that "as a mother, I am still numb with shock to hear that a man could defile an eight-year-old girl and go ahead to mutilate her body for purported money rituals."

The Edo Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aisosa Amadasun, and four others, have been brought before a Benin High Court, for allegedly committing contract fraud to the tune of N1.5bn, NAN reports. The other defendants in the case are: Adama Osabuohien, Prince Stephen Alao, Dove Momodu and Ali Sulayman. The Borno State Police Command said on Wednesday that as a result of "Operation Safe Corridor," the counter-terrorism effort of the Nigerian military, two high profile commanders of the Boko Haram militant group have surrendered, along with their families. Malissa Ann Ancona, 44, and her 24-year-old son, Paul Edward Jinkerson Jr., were charged with first-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence and abandonment of a corpse following the death of white supremacist Frank Ancona. Both have been jailed without bond. Jinkerson shot his 51-year-old stepfather as he slept Thursday at his home in Leadwood, about 70 miles south of St. Louis, a probable cause statement alleges.
