Spanner. Popular South African DJ Komza Nhleko has been reportedly arrested and charged after he viciously attacked his wife with a spanner. Nhleko brutally injured his wife in the eye, confining the woman to a hospital bed in the country. The victim's friend Thandeka Ndex Ndolvu, angered by the violence, shared a video clip of the said assault. Ndolvu said the DJ assaulted the victim for a long time in front of bouncers who just watched without doing anything. "First we were attacked at Slot Mile in front of five to six bouncers then followed all the way to the garage. My friend has been assaulted for the longest of time and has kept quiet because she thought that things would change or get better but this is what it got too…. She is now lying in a hospital bed," she said. The video sparked major outrage on social media at a time when reports of South African men murdering or assaulting their women proliferate the media.

Ado-Ekiti – An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 55-year-old man, Adeyanju Basiri in prison custody for allegedly sleeping with his daughter. The Police Prosecutor, Sgt Monica Ikebulo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 11 at Irona Street, Ado-Ekiti. She said the accused and one herbalist now at large were arrested for attempting to use the 7-year-girl daughter of the defendant for money rituals. She said that the accused claimed he had slept with his daughter, name withheld, nine times. The prosecutor said the accused told the police he always use a white handkerchief given to him by the herbalist to clean his daughter's private part after having intercourse with her. She said the offence contravened Section 31(2) of the Child's Right Law. ISRAEL HOSTS AMERICA'S FIRST MILITARY BASE ON IT'S SOIL TO CURB IRAN

Jerusalem – The U.S. Army has inaugurated its first military base in Israel,which sends a message of readiness to Iran in the region, local media reported on Tuesday. The base's opening comes as Israel faces a slew of regional threats, especially from its Iran, Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said. The Israeli military said the new base is located inside an existing Israel Air Force base in the southern region. The American military base houses dozens of U.S. soldiers operating radar device alongside Israeli soldiers as U.S. radar has been operational on site for a decade, using American civilians to operate it.

ZIMBABWEAN GOVT TO BAN WEEKDAYS SALES OF ALCOHOL AND TO PREGNANT WOMEN

The Zimbabwean government is set to enact a law barring the sale of alcohol during some days of the week, some hours of the day and to expectant women, in a bid to curb abuse of the beverage. The National Alcohol Policy is said to be the brainchild of former Zimbabwe health minister Timothy Stamps, now serving as health adviser in the office of the president and cabinet. The new law will also target motor vehicle drivers, who will face arrest if found driving with blood alcohol concentration levels going beyond 0,08 per 100ml. Retailers found selling the drink to expectant women will also be arrested. The policy also proposes that any alcohol advertisements should be done further than 100 metres from a road intersection, school, clinic, hospital, church and old people's homes. Critics of the proposed regulations have however taken issue with its impact on profitability for retailers. Senator Dino Melaye The Independent National Electroral Commision (INEC) yesterday issued a fresh timetable for the recall of the senator representing Kogi West senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye. The process is now to start from October 3rd with the issuance of notice of recall and end on October 14 with the conduct of verification in all poling units in the Kogi West district. A man has been arrested by the Egyptian police after he allegedly admitted to beating his 85-year-old mother to death because his wife complained about her. Zeinab as-Sayyid Mahfouz died at a hospital in Alexandria on September 15 after what many speculated to be domestic violence. After reports of him beating his aged mother to death circulated online, social media users in Egypt demanded that he be brought to justice. It was learnt that Zeinab's daughter-in-law had complained to her son about her after which he brutally beat her up to please his wife. AMINA YUGUDA A journalist from north-eastern Nigeria has won the third BBC World News Komla Dumor Award. Amina Yuguda is a news presenter on local network Gotel Television, where she has reported on high-profile news stories, including the Boko Haram insurgency. She will start a three-month placement at the BBC in London in September. The award was created to honour Komla Dumor, a presenter for BBC World News, who died suddenly aged 41 in 2014. Ms Yuguda said her win was a "huge honour. I was overwhelmed with joy. Storytellers have always had an important role in Africa... this is what defines us. Today journalists are taking on that responsibility."  She impressed the panel with her story-telling and her ability to convey complex ideas in a way that resonates with a wide audience.

A Nigerian man was stabbed to death by his friend, over an unknown amount of money in Ruaka, Kiambu county. The middle aged man was stabbed several times in the chest. Residents who responded to screams rushed to the scene and apprehended the culprit, who is also a Nigerian, and started beating him, before he was saved by police. He was taken to the Karuri police station, as police launch investigations. The deceased's body was taken to the city mortuary. Neighbors described the two men as secretive and reserved.
