32 Awaiting Prison Inmates Died In Lagos In 2016- Controller of Prisons SEE PHOTO OF ONE NIGERIAN OVER CROWDED PRISON The Lagos State Controller of Prisons, Olumide Tinuoye yesterday disclosed that 32 awaiting prison inmates died in prison facilities in the state last year due to the state of the facilities. Tinuoye, who said this while hosting to the Lagos State Prerogative of Mercy Committee led by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, also disclosed that the prisons also lost one female inmate to death last month after being on dialysis for over two years. The state controller of prisons maintained that often times, prison officials use their personal money to buy drugs for the inmates while others live on the philanthropic gestures of churches and mosques which have been assisting to provide medication for the inmates. He stated that there are 7,714 in all the prisons across the state,  6,047 of are awaiting trials, 1,390 convicted

EFCC arraigns INEC officials for collecting bribe from Diezani Madueke to rig 2015 election The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Wednesday arraigned three officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for allegedly taking bribes from ex-Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke to compromise the 2015 general elections. According to the anti-graft agency, the accused persons, Christian Nwosu, Yisa Adedoyin and Tijani Bashir, allegedly collected the bribe from the former Minister on March 27, 2015. They were arraigned on seven counts before the Federal High Court in Lagos. Diezani,who is thought to be in the UK was charged along with them.

Six foreigners nabbed for allegedly burning down NSCDC office in Jigawa The Jigawa State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has said it arrested six nationals of Niger Republic and 21 other suspects for allegedly burning down its office in Maigatari Local Government Area of the state. The corps’ Spokesman, Adamu Abdullahi confirmed the arrest to newsmen in Dutse. According to him, an investigation into the case had since commenced after which the suspects would be prosecuted. Abdullahi said: “Some suspected hoodlums had on March 30 allegedly razed down the NSCDC’s office in Maigatari town. “As I told you, the other time, we have identified those suspected to have participated in burning down our office in Maigatari. “So, yesterday in the night, we sent our men to the area and were able to arrest 27 suspects. “But six of them are from Niger Republic, while the rest are from Maigatari town. “Also, seven of the 27 suspects are juveniles.“For these j

Gunmen dressed like police officers kidnap NYSC member and three others(photo) BECKY GODFREY        Becky Godfrey, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was kidnapped by gunmen on Monday, April 3, along Okene-Auchi road. The corp member was abducted along with three other travelers enroute Bayelsa. Godfrey, a serving corp member in Sagbama local government area of Bayelsa, was going to her place of primary assignment to sign the clearance for her monthly allowance when the incident happened.It was learnt that a member of the gang dressed like a police officer stopped the bus; after this, the other members came out of the bush.Three other passengers were taken in addition to the corp member before the gunmen disappeared into the bush.         The driver reported the incident at Okene police division afterwards. Nollywood actress Modupe Oyekunle dies during childbirth,baby survives     Tuesday, April 4 was a sad day for Nollywood actors as fast rising actress Modupe Oyekunle died in the early morning of the day during child birth. Oyekunle died in the delivery room while trying to give birth to her third child.     Late Modupe Oyekunle Popularly known as oyinbo because of her complexion, Modupe gave birth to her baby, a girl, before giving up the ghost. She played a prominent role of Sandra in Segun Ogungbe’s blockbuster movie Ibi Giga among other movies she has acted in. The 42-year-old also pleaded not guilty at Hull Crown Court to three counts of voyeurism, which relate to another complainant.  Ohaegbu, who worked at Castle Hill Hospital, is accused of twice filming the second complainant naked, and once under a table at a restaurant, without her consent between July and August 2016. The court was told, that on 26 September, the teenager was walking along Peel Street after midnight when Mr Ohaegbu tried to kidnap her, allegedly, with the intention of committing a sexual offence. Five children killed in Abuja electricity fire  Five children have been reportedly burnt to death after fire gutted their apartment  on Saturday  in in Mpape community, in the Bwari area of Abuja.  It was gathered that there were sparks on the electric cables in the area after power was restored by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC). The sparks were said to have triggered a fire, which ravaged the victims’ parents apartment.  The children were said to have been trapped in the house and burnt to death.
