Meningitis Outbreak: God is punishing Nigerians for fornicating – Governor Yari


The Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, on Tuesday attributed the renewed outbreak of meningitis which has claimed hundreds of lives in parts of the country to flagrant disobedience to God.
Specifically, he said fornication was the main reason God was punishing Nigeria with meningitis. He added that God decided to send Type C of the disease which has no vaccine as punishment for Nigerians’ nefarious activities.
Yari said this in an interview he granted in Hausa shortly after meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said: "What we used to know as far as meningitis is concerned is the Type A virus.
The World Health Organisation has carried out vaccinations against this Type A virus , not just in Zamfara , but in many other states. However, because people refused to stop their nefarious activities, God now decided to send Type C virus , which has no vaccination. 
People have turned away from God and he has promised that ‘ if you do anyhow, you see anyhow. That is just the cause of this outbreak, as far as I am concerned. There is no way fornication will be so rampant and God will not send a disease that cannot be cured."
The governor expressed the belief that the epidemic will end once Nigerians decide to repent from their sinful way of life. "The most important thing is for our people to know that their relationship with God is not smooth . All they need to do is repent and everything will be alright," he explained .
He said political leaders were doing their best in educating the people, but would not be able to go about arresting them if they failed to obey. The governor said his administration was committed to addressing the outbreak. saying he summoned an emergency meeting when it started.
He said there is shortage of vaccine for the Type C with the five million doses available not enough for Zamfara State alone. He said the Ministry of Health has only 50, 000 doses of the vaccine adding that 20, 000 was given to his state because of the high casualties recorded there.

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos have intercepted a 54- year- old single mother of four children. She was going on pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia with substances that tested positive for cocaine. The suspect who hails from Kwara State was apprehended during the outward screening of passengers on a Qatar Airline flight to Saudi Arabia after testing positive to drug ingestion. Preliminary investigation revealed that she ingested 32 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine weighing 330 grammes. The suspect who hawks tea and bread to earn a living in Lagos was found to have collected N300,000 to smuggle drugs to Saudi under the pretext of going for pilgrimage. PHOTO OF THE DECEASED BEEN TAKEN AWAY An Assistant Superintendent of Customs has allegedly committed suicide in Lungu Village, Gwarinpa, Abuja. The cause of the suicide was yet to be ascertained. Sources said the man, identified as Christian, 44, locked himself in a room and hung himself with a rope on Saturday. A source said the deceased, who was unmarried, was staying with his brother and was said to have been recently transferred to Lagos before the incident happened. The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, said the brother whom the deceased stayed with was at a barber’s shop when the incident happened. He said the man was confirmed dead at the Kubwa General Hospital. “Exhibits recovered include some drugs and knife.” Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was suffering from depression.

POSTMORTEMS TO BE CARRIED OUT ON BODIES OF CANADIAN-AMERICAN COUPLE

By BBN Staff: Yesterday, the bodies of the missing Canadian-American couple were discovered near a cane field in Chan Chen village in the Corozal district. Reports to BBN is that an on site post-mortem examination is being conducted on the bodies at this time. According to these reports, the bodies are in an advanced state of decomposition. Canadian national, Francesca Matus, 52, and her boyfriend, American national, Drew Devoursney, 36, were last seen on Tuesday night leaving a bar in Corozal town. Matus was to fly to Canada, Wednesday morning. A friend who was to take Matus to the airport, American national Joseph Milholen, reported to police that he called her several times but to no avail. Milholen also called Devoursney but received no response. Police and volunteers had organized search parties from Wednesday through to Monday.
