EFCC arraigns INEC officials for collecting bribe from Diezani Madueke to rig 2015 election




 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Wednesday arraigned three officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for allegedly taking bribes from ex-Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke to compromise the 2015 general elections.

 According to the anti-graft agency, the accused persons, Christian Nwosu, Yisa Adedoyin and Tijani Bashir, allegedly collected the bribe from the former Minister on March 27, 2015.
They were arraigned on seven counts before the Federal High Court in Lagos.

 Diezani,who is thought to be in the UK was charged along with them.

The Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has said that no amount of scare-mongering will dissuade it from “vigorously enforcing its mandate to rid Nigeria of corruption”, if the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, is found guilty in its latest findings. The Commission, was responding to an alarm by Ike Ekweremadu, that it plans to set him up, by planting cash and weapons at his houses, to be unearthed during a planned raid. Ekweremadu, had raised the alarm when he read a letter at plenary on Wednesday, reportedly written to him by an unnamed Nigerian. The suspect, a graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, was arrested alongside his accomplice, Adebayo Kazeem, 32, after stealing the items from their work place. Nigerian soldier sentenced to death for killing civilian February 1, 2017 Agency Report The Nigeria Army general court martial sitting in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Wednesday sentenced a soldier to seven years in prison for shooting and killing an unarmed civilian two years ago. The convicted soldier, Hassan Adamu, a lance corporal, had told the court that he shot the deceased on December 23, 2015 in self defence. He said the victim attempted to disarm him while he was on guard duty at the popular Monday market, Maiduguri. A mother in Houston, Texas has been charged to court for torturing her child for three hours straight because she was jealous that the child’s father got a new girlfriend. The mother decided to carry out her rage on her 1-year-old son after which she sent the video to her ex-boyfriend, the child’s father, to punish him. Jamelle Peterkin, 23, placed a plastic bag over her toddler’s head then proceeded to inflict burns on him with a lighter. In the distressing video, Jamelle can be heard saying to her son Jaiden “tell your daddy” as she flicked the lighter and put the flames to the baby’s hand. The baby’s screams did not deter her from torturing him, instead, it spurred her to hit him as he cried some more.
