MAN ALLEGEDLY BEATS 85 YEAR OLD MUM TO DEATH TO PLEASE WIFE
A man has been arrested by the Egyptian police after he allegedly admitted to beating his 85-year-old mother to death because his wife complained about her.
Zeinab as-Sayyid Mahfouz died at a hospital in Alexandria on September 15 after what many speculated to be domestic violence.
After reports of him beating his aged mother to death circulated online, social media users in Egypt demanded that he be brought to justice.
It was learnt that Zeinab's daughter-in-law had complained to her son about her after which he brutally beat her up to please his wife.
He then proceeded to a restaurant with his wife, leaving his battered and wounded mother in the house to bleed. Neighbours who noticed blood draining out of the house, broke into the house to find the woman lying unconscious with bruises on her face.
They immediately rushed her to the hospital where she eventually died. There were reports that the son and wife tried to flee the city when they heard about Zeinab's death but were arrested by security forces.
Upon interrogation, he admitted the crime to the police.
However, the deceased woman's oldest daughter, Rajaa al-Araby told al-Arabiya.net that her mother died of brain clot.
She said her brother is innocent after disclosing that the deceased had been living with her brother and his wife for about five years and she was thankful to his wife.
Rajja further revealed that the online campaign against her brother demanding strict punishment is a plot to tarnish the family's image.
She said the deceased was initially admitted to the hospital for brain clot on 13 September and died two days later.
When quizzed about the bruises under her mother's eyes, the bereaved daughter claimed her mother had slumped after a stroke caused by the clot. Adding that the fall caused her spectacles to break which bruised her eyes.
