TERRORISM;NIGERIAN GOVT BEGINS TRIAL OF BOKO HARAM SUSPECTS

The federal government says it is ready for its first major prosecutions of suspects linked to Boko Haram insurgency.
Trials of the suspects will take place at a military base.
The defendants have all been arrested and detained since the start of insurgency in the country's northeast in 2009.
The Justice ministry announced last month that some 1,670 detainees would go on trial at a civilian court at a military base in Kainji, in the central state of Niger.
A further 651 others at the Giwa barracks in the capital of the northeastern state of Borno, Maiduguri, would then be tried.
A government source involved in the process told newsmen that defence and prosecution lawyers have arrived early to prepare for the cases.
"But from all indications, the whole of Monday will be used for administrative purposes," he said on condition of anonymity.
"It's just about sorting out the record of the suspects to determine who is going to stand trial today and those who will be tried later.
"The trials will be conducted on an individual basis. Of course, where some suspects are accused of committing a particular crime, they will be tried in a group."

Armed Robber Burnt To Death In Calabar By Mob After Juju Failed February 16, 2017 A dead man was found lying by the side of the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Murtala Mohammed Highway, closed to RCC roundabout, Calabar after he was burnt to death by an angry mob. File Photo The Police at the Lion Building Division, Lagos Island, Lagos have arrested three suspected thieves who allegedly jumped into the High Court premises at Igbosere Road on Lagos Island at midnight with dangerous weapons to steal. Man allegedly chops off pregnant woman’s hand A man, who was engaged in a fight with his neighbour in Isaba-Ekiti, allegedly chopped off the left wrist of a pregnant woman, Aisha Adam, with a cutlass. A News Agency of Nigeria correspondent, who visited the pregnant woman and mother of four on her hospital bed on Monday, reports that the left hand of the victim was cut off from the wrist. According to CBS affiliate WJHL, Scott Edmisten was “unsteady” and “very angry” when authorities pulled him over during a traffic stop this week. On Tuesday, WREG reported Edmisten was driving on a suspended license when he was caught going 55 mph in a 30 mph zone. He allegedly floored it, reaching speeds of 80 mph before finally coming to a stop and taken into custody. An inventory of his vehicle recovered a loaded .357 magnum, a loaded .45 semi auto, a full auto AR rifle in .223 caliber, a full auto AR rifle in .308 caliber, over 900 rounds of ammunition, a mask and black fatigues.
