APC WOMAN LEADER REMANDED IN PRISON CUSTODY FOR N1.5BN FRAUD

The Edo Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aisosa Amadasun, and four others, have been brought before a Benin High Court, for allegedly committing contract fraud to the tune of N1.5bn, NAN reports.
The other defendants in the case are: Adama Osabuohien, Prince Stephen Alao, Dove Momodu and Ali Sulayman.

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, October 5, arraigned the defendants before Justice Ohimai Ovbiagele, for allegedly using their offices while serving as board members of the Edo Universal Basic Education Board, to award contracts to their cronies after collecting money from them.

After they all pleaded not guilty to the 50-count charge, the judge ordered their remand in Oko Prisons and adjourned the case until Monday, October 9 for the hearing of the bail application.
At the resumed hearing on Monday, defence counsel, Candy Ohio, urged the court to grant his clients bail, and argued that his clients were charged on matters bordering on criminal offences and not capital offence.

Mr. Ohio pleaded with the court to use its discretion to grant the accused bail.
EFCC’s counsel, Harrison Ibekwute, however, opposed the bail application.
He said the offences contravened Sections 98b (1) (a) (II) of the Criminal Code, CAP. 48, Laws of Bendel State of Nigeria, as applicable to Edo.
The presiding judge adjourned the case until Friday, October 13, for ruling on bail.

 Meanwhile,Dr. Taiwo Malumi, the senatorial leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state south senatorial district, was remanded in prison custody over an alleged N40million fraud.
Malumi, a medical doctor and managing director of Funtai Limited was remanded in prison custody by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

The meeting of the Federal Executive Council that holds every Wednesday did not hold yesterday. Yesterday would have afforded President Muhammadu Buhari who returned to the country on Saturday the opportunity of presiding over the council meeting for the first time in over three months. Late Joy Odama Autopsy has revealed that Joy Odama who was allegedly killed by an Alhaji in Abuja, died after inhaling carbon monoxide fumes. Joy Odama, a 200 level undergraduate Mass Communication student at Cross River State University, according to her mother was murdered by Usman Adamu. Former President, Mr Goodluck Jonathan has confirmed the theft of his property from his house in Abuja.
