APC WOMAN LEADER REMANDED IN PRISON CUSTODY FOR N1.5BN FRAUD

The Edo Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aisosa Amadasun, and four others, have been brought before a Benin High Court, for allegedly committing contract fraud to the tune of N1.5bn, NAN reports.
The other defendants in the case are: Adama Osabuohien, Prince Stephen Alao, Dove Momodu and Ali Sulayman.

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, October 5, arraigned the defendants before Justice Ohimai Ovbiagele, for allegedly using their offices while serving as board members of the Edo Universal Basic Education Board, to award contracts to their cronies after collecting money from them.

After they all pleaded not guilty to the 50-count charge, the judge ordered their remand in Oko Prisons and adjourned the case until Monday, October 9 for the hearing of the bail application.
At the resumed hearing on Monday, defence counsel, Candy Ohio, urged the court to grant his clients bail, and argued that his clients were charged on matters bordering on criminal offences and not capital offence.

Mr. Ohio pleaded with the court to use its discretion to grant the accused bail.
EFCC’s counsel, Harrison Ibekwute, however, opposed the bail application.
He said the offences contravened Sections 98b (1) (a) (II) of the Criminal Code, CAP. 48, Laws of Bendel State of Nigeria, as applicable to Edo.
The presiding judge adjourned the case until Friday, October 13, for ruling on bail.

 Meanwhile,Dr. Taiwo Malumi, the senatorial leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state south senatorial district, was remanded in prison custody over an alleged N40million fraud.
Malumi, a medical doctor and managing director of Funtai Limited was remanded in prison custody by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

The Nigerian Air Force has sentenced to death by hanging Airman Kalu Bernard, for killing his lover, Solape Oladipupo, aka Shomzy Shomzy, on March 12, 2017. The judgment, which started at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, dragged till 4 p.m. when it was stood down before the panelists reconvened at 7:30 p.m. Reading out the 70-page court findings, which lasted for about two hours, the Judge Advocate, Flight Lieutenant M.A. Umoh, listed the eight-count charges against 21-year-old Kalu to include murder, house breaking, impersonation, attempted murder, among others. Youths and traders protest customs invasion of rice warehouse Feb 23rd 2017; Some youths and traders have brought activities and vehicular movement on the ever busy Lagos-Abeokuta expressway to a halt, following a protest over alleged invasion of the rice market by men of the Nigerian Customs Service.The protest which was said to have lasted for hours, took the intervention of the Sango Ota Police Area Commander, Adegoke Fayoade, to restore normalcy to the area.
