Apo six: Court sentences 2 officers to death, discharges 3

Justice Ishaq Bello of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has delivered judgment in the alleged extra judicial killing of six spare parts traders at Apo area of Abuja by six police officers in 2005.

Delivering his judgement, Justice Bello sentenced two of the defendants to death and discharged the other three for lack of sufficient evidence since one of them has been at large.

The officers are Danjuma Ibrahim, Othman Abdulsalami (now at large), Nicholas Zakaria, Ezekiel Acheneje, Baba Emmanuel and Sadiq Salami.

The Attorney General of the Federation in 2005 charged the six police officers to court for the alleged crime.

They were arraigned on a nine count charge of conspiracy and culpable homicide, which contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 221 (a) of the Penal Code Law.
The traders allegedly killed by the officers: are Ifeanyi Ozor,Chinedu Meniru, Isaac Ekene, Paulinus Ogbonna, Anthony Nwodike and Augustina Arebun.

After weeks of intensive manhunt, the Lagos state police command has arrested one Ismaila Adeyemi, 49, the suspected mastermind and killer of Hector Jobateh (the 2007 winner of Gulder Ultimate search) who was traced and shot dead at his residence at New Oko-Oba in Agege, Lagos State. The suspect who was arrested at gas line Ominiyi in Ijoko area of Ogun state, confessed to the crime and other numerous crimes, while other members of his gang have been arrested. A legislative coup against the Nigerian Acting Vice President,prof Yemi Osinbajo has been averted,as the senate attempted to make Saraki Immediate Acting President. A mild drama occurred on the floor of the Senate, on Tuesday, when a point of order was raised, that the Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, was the Acting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Senator Eyinanya Abaribe (Abia South), had raised a motion that the country had no President or Acting President at the moment, adding that, President Muhammadu Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo, were neither in the country, as at the time.
