DELTA GOV OKOWA PRAISES IBORI'S LEGACIES

We must consolidate on Ibori's legacies – Okowa

UGHELLI—Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, has said the state government will continue to consolidate on the gains and legacies of the administration of former governor of the state, Chief James Ibori, since 1999.

Speaking at the palace of the Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, Ogurime'rime, Ukori I, during the 2017 Agbon Day celebration, weekend, the governor also called on public spirited individuals and politicians to support government's developmental efforts in their respective communities.
Speaking at the event which was also attended by the former governor, Okowa said: "We must continue to consolidate on the gains of the foundations of what our leader, Chief Ibori, did since 1999.
"We are trying to empower our youths so that they can create jobs for themselves and others. We will continue to engage our people from Agbon Kingdom as their relationship with the government will help to empower the communities."
In his remark, the monarch, Ukori I, while commending the governor for the development strides in the kingdom, lamented the challenges of electricity power supply in the area and called on the Federal Government to provide a lasting solution to the problem.

POLICE ARRESTS 75 YEAR OLD MAN,OTHERS FOR SELLING GUNS TO VIGILANTE GROUPS WITHOUT LICENCE

Operatives of the Zonal Intervention Squad attached to Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, have arrested a 75-year-old man, Olayiwola Araba, for allegedly supplying guns to vigilante groups without license.   The other suspects identified are 45-year-old Olarewaju Kabir, 35-year-old Oladele Jacob and 40-year-old Jide Akinola,who were said to have been arrested at different locations in the state.   The operatives who effected the arrest were said to have recovered nine rifles, two pistols and live ammunitions.Confirming the arrest, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police and zonal spokesperson, said the suspect was arrested for selling guns without license.   She said: "We are holding the seller and the buyers for illegal possession of firearms, because the seller has no document to show he has the approval of the police authority to sell guns to the public.   "We are going to conduct a discreet investigation into the business to identify the routes through which it come into th...

A disgruntled husband killed his wife during their cruise-ship vacation because "she would not stop laughing at me," according to newly filed court papers. Kenneth Manzanares attacked his wife, Kristy, inside their cabin aboard the Emerald Princess cruise ship Tuesday night, according to an affidavit filed Wednesday in Alaska federal court. A teenage father with a tattoo covering half his face saying DEVAST8 has cried out over his struggle to get a job. 19 year old Mark Cropp , who was recently released from prison, put a plea out on Facebook saying his facial tattoo was stopping him securing employment. He also said his tattoo which is not gang affiliated- wasn 't planned and was not supposed to be quite as big. He got it a number of months ago while in prison serving a two year and three month sentence in the Otago Correction Facility for aggravated robbery, the NZ Herald reports. NIGERIAN ARMY AND POLICE CLASH BLOODY,4 DIE

A bloody clash between the army and police in Nigeria's restive northeastern Yobe state on Wednesday left one soldier and three police dead, a security source told AFP.  The police confirmed the fracas in the state capital of Damaturu, but did not say if there were casualties.  "The Nigeria police force is abreast of the unfortunate incident that occurred in the early hours of today 12th April, 2017 in Damaturu between the personnel of the force and that of the Nigerian army," police spokesman Jimoh Moshood said in a statement.  He said an investigation had been launched to determine "the causes of the incident and deal with the situation appropriately to prevent such occurrence in the future".  The army authorities were not immediately available for comment.
