RADICAL GOVERNOR FAYOSE SEEN ENJOYING AMALA IN ABUJA CANTEEN

Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, who is known to be streetwise, on Tuesday strolled into a restaurant in the federal capital territory (FCT) to enjoy amala and ewedu, a local delicacy.

Not minding the presence of people at the restaurant, the governor sat comfortably and focused on the two bowls in front of him.

He even posed for photographs, which Lere Olayinka, his spokesman, released on social media.

“Just like you and I, Governor Fayose doing justice to AMALA with gbegiri, ewedu and ogufe (goat meat) at the popular Iya Oyo Amala Joint, Wuse, Abuja today,” Olayinka wrote.

“No retinue of security men, just the governor and a few of his friends taking care of their stomach.

“Say what you like, na you know.”

Despite criticisms that have trailed the lifestyle, which is very unpopular among the political class, Fayose has vowed to continue to identify with the masses.

During his last birthday, he shared cakes on the street of Ado-Ekiti, his state capital. He has also ridden on commercial motorcycles, and walked freely on streets.

Speaking after taking oath of office in 2014, Fayose said though the opposition wanted him to look like the governor of their imagination, he is a governor of the people’s imagination.

“I am the governor of your imagination, the governor that eats boli with you, the governor that drinks agbo jedi ((a local herb)) with you, the governor that knows that the resources of this state belong to you,” he had said.

“When I come to buy boli tomorrow, I will drop something. I will look after you. They are too clean in their own eyes to go to agbo jedi sector and that is why you voted them out.”

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos have intercepted a 54- year- old single mother of four children. She was going on pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia with substances that tested positive for cocaine. The suspect who hails from Kwara State was apprehended during the outward screening of passengers on a Qatar Airline flight to Saudi Arabia after testing positive to drug ingestion. Preliminary investigation revealed that she ingested 32 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine weighing 330 grammes. The suspect who hawks tea and bread to earn a living in Lagos was found to have collected N300,000 to smuggle drugs to Saudi under the pretext of going for pilgrimage. SAD;CUSTOMS OFFICER COMMITS SUICIDE

PHOTO OF THE DECEASED BEEN TAKEN AWAY An Assistant Superintendent of Customs has allegedly committed suicide in Lungu Village, Gwarinpa, Abuja. The cause of the suicide was yet to be ascertained. Sources said the man, identified as Christian, 44, locked himself in a room and hung himself with a rope on Saturday. A source said the deceased, who was unmarried, was staying with his brother and was said to have been recently transferred to Lagos before the incident happened. The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, said the brother whom the deceased stayed with was at a barber’s shop when the incident happened. He said the man was confirmed dead at the Kubwa General Hospital. “Exhibits recovered include some drugs and knife.” Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was suffering from depression.

Gunmen suspected to be militants on Thursday morning invaded Lagos State Model College, Igbo Nla, Epe, Lagos, abducting the principals and some students. The kidnappers were said to have stormed the school in the early hours when the students were at the morning assembly. The gunmen abducted the principal of the junior secondary school, Mr. Oyesola and Mr. Akirinmade who is the Principal of the senior secondary school. They also abducted some of the students. Presenting the case to the House of Representatives, the member representing Epe Constituency, Wale Raji, appealed to the House to call on the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State to treat the case with utmost urgency. POLICEMAN MURDERED,RIFFLE STOLEN BY HOODLUMS

Barely one week after a policeman lost his service rifle to unknown gunmen, another policeman has been attacked and killed by unidentified hoodlums in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. The unnamed policeman was reportedly killed in a beer parlour in the state capital. It was learnt that the hoodlums stole a police AK47 rifle after murdering the policeman at one of the relaxation spots on Hospital Road area. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, reportedly created pandemonium in the area known for prostitution and forced many restaurants to temporarily shut down their business.
