BULLION VAN RAMS INTO GOVERNOR'S CONVOY

A bullion van belonging to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday rammed into the convoy of Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

 The accident occurred near Ibafo on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

 Amosun was travelling to Lagos for an official assignment.

 The van damaged the escort vehicle in the governor’s convoy.

 An eyewitness alleged that the CBN convoy drove recklessly, attempting to overtake the governor’s convoy.

 He said on sensing danger, the governor’s escort commander used a public address system to warn the CBN convoy to stop reckless driving.

 “Not only was he ignored, the CBN driver hit the vehicle and went after other vehicles in the governor’s convoy, including Amosun’s official car, before he was stopped by security operatives attached to the governor.

 Amosun said: “This is lawlessness and the height of impunity.”

 He added: “If this could happen to a governor within his territory, you can imagine what they will do to our citizens who are going about their legitimate business.

 “We will not allow such senseless and reckless behaviour in Ogun State.”

US MILITARY SAYS SENIOR ISIS COMMANDERS KILLED IN AFGHAN AIR STRIKE

Several senior members of Islamic State's central Asian affiliate were killed in a U.S. air strike in Afghanistan, officials said on Sunday. The attack on Thursday killed Abdul Rahman, identified by the U.S. military as the Kunar provincial emir for Islamic State of Iraq and Syria-Khorasan, according to a statement from the command in Kabul. "The death of Abdul Rahman deals yet another blow to the senior leadership of ISIS-K," said General John Nicholson, the senior U.S. commander in Afghanistan. Three other senior ISIS-K members were also among those killed in the strike in eastern Kunar province. Nicholson has vowed to defeat Islamic State militants in Afghanistan this year. THE LATE BELOVED SENATOR ISIAKA ADELEKE Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, rescued an aide to Osun State Governor, Ms Idiat Babalola, from mob attack at the premises of the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, on Monday. According to the Senior Special Assistant (Media) to Amosun, Mr. Adejuwon Soyinka, the crowd of sympathisers demanded that Babalola be made to leave the premises of the Ede,Osun State country home of the Adelekes. The irate youths said Babalola was being touted to become the running mate of the anointed candidate of the APC. Problem started when Babalola was sighted by the mourners who demanded that she should be sent out. ISRAEL HOSTS AMERICA'S FIRST MILITARY BASE ON IT'S SOIL TO CURB IRAN

Jerusalem – The U.S. Army has inaugurated its first military base in Israel,which sends a message of readiness to Iran in the region, local media reported on Tuesday. The base's opening comes as Israel faces a slew of regional threats, especially from its Iran, Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said. The Israeli military said the new base is located inside an existing Israel Air Force base in the southern region. The American military base houses dozens of U.S. soldiers operating radar device alongside Israeli soldiers as U.S. radar has been operational on site for a decade, using American civilians to operate it.

South Sudan's rebels on Saturday said they had wrested control of Pagak, their stronghold town near the country's border with Ethiopia, from government forces, a day after launching an offensive to drive them out. Formerly controlled by the rebels, the town was captured by South Sudan's military five days ago but heavy fighting erupted on Friday with rebels vowing to retake it. "We took control of Pagak...government forces are not in Pagak, we have pushed them out," rebel spokesman Lam Paul Gabriel told Reuters. Dickson Gatluak Jock, spokesman for South Sudan's Vice President, Taban Deng Gai, denied the military had lost Pagak but said they had lost three soldiers in the fighting while four were wounded.
