CULTISM ; 10 KILLED AS RIVAL CULT GROUPS CLASH
There was pandemonium in some part of Akure, the Ondo State capital on Monday night following the killing of no fewer than ten people by suspected cult members .
LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that no fewer than ten suspected cultists had been murdered in the last three days when rival groups engaged gunfire on themselves.
It was also learnt that the rival cult groups, Eiye and Aiye confraternity have been at logger head in the last few days.
The killings occurred in some streets of the state capital such as Obanla, Roadblock, Adebowale junction and the last clash took place on Monday night at Nepa area of the ancient town.
A source told LEADERSHIP that the cultists stormed NEPA area on Mondaynight, chanting unknown slangs and shot at a young man.
Apparently uncomfortable with this trend, the president of Akure Youth coalition, Mr. Tuyi Adekanbi described the development as worrisome and unacceptable.
Adekambi threatening that youths would soon shut down roads and markets in Akure to demand immediate intervention of government on the incident.
He said "I Just want to call your attention to the recurring decimal of cultist killing in Akure metropolis. Till now 9 sound healthy youths had been gruesomely murdered.
"Before now we have called all individual and groups that matters that AKURE community is seating on a keg of gun powder with the activities of all these rivalry cults.
"They have graduated from night attacks and killings to a broad daylight operation."
"There is pandemonium in all the nooks and crannies of Akure. They dispossess innocent people of their belongings and many people ran to danger everyday for the past 3 days."
"Another boy had just been shot dead at NEPA roundabout this evening. His remains had been deposited at the morgue. Imagine! Police are out of it this time around. Help us, our youths are dying everyday. Help us to call Mr Governor and our celebrated SSG to rise to there responsibility".
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, however said the number of deaths so far recorded in an inter-cult rivalry in Akure was three .
Joseph said the Command had also arrested about 20 persons in connection with various criminal activities in the town since the beginning of the he clash.
The Police spokesperson, Femi Joseph, said besides the arrest, further investigations were ongoing to unravel all those involved.
