Organizers have stripped Miss Turkey 2017 of her crown over a social media posting that was deemed insulting to the memory of the 250 people killed while opposing last year’s failed military coup.

 Miss Turkey organizers said the 18-year-old Itir Esen was dethroned on Friday, a day after she won the contest and the right to represent Turkey at the Miss World contest in China. The organizers said in an emailed statement that her title was revoked because of a tweet in July that they described as “unacceptable.”

Runner-up Asli Sumen will now represent Turkey in China.

Media reports said Esen, a model and university student, caused a storm on social media after she posted a remark on Twitter as the country held memorials for the victims on the first anniversary of the July 15, 2016 coup attempt.

According to Sozcu newspaper and other media the tweet, which has since been erased, said: “I got my period on the morning of the July 15 martyrs’ day. I’m marking the day by bleeding as a representation of the martyrs’ blood.”

 Esen reportedly denied the account was hers. But Can Sandikcioglu, who heads the Miss Turkey Organization, said the committee said it confirmed she was the author of the tweet.

“We are sad to announce that we have reached the conclusion that the tweet was posted by Itir Esen,” the organization quoted Sandikcioglu as saying. “It is not possible for the Miss Turkey Organization, whose aim is to promote Turkey worldwide and to contribute to its image, to accept such a posting.”

The organization said the tweet came to their attention after the competition and that it took them “hours” to determine that was Esen’s.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Memphis preschool worker has been charged with aggravated child abuse after police say she dragged a 16-month-old boy by one leg and broke the other. Police said the toddler was injured September 20 at the M.E.M. Preschool and Summer Camp on Macon road while he was being watched by Omeika Williams. Investigators said Williams told the child’s parents the boy tripped over a rug and hurt his left leg, but video from the preschool showed her dragging the boy by his right leg causing his left to twist under his body. An Ile-Ife Magistrate Court has remanded one Isreal Ojimi, 38, said to be a prophet and Bose Adetimikan, 27, in prison custody over alleged rituals. The prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 20, 2017, around 10:00 pm at Mosarajo area via Ile-Ife. According to him, they had armed themselves with some charms in the form of a garment with an intention to commit felony. He further explained that they conducted themselves in a manner that caused mayhem, adding that their behavior was against the norms and ethics of the nation and had contravened sections 213, 249 (d) and 516 of the State Penal Code. Although defence counsel, Mr Alaba Awoseemo pleaded for their bail in most libral terms, the plea was not accepted. Amilcar Henriquez shot dead in his Panama home . Police in Panama say national team soccer player Amilcar Henriquez has been shot dead while leaving his home. The press chief for Panama’s National Police says the killing happened Saturday in the country’s Colon province. Authorities say a gunman shot the 33-year-old midfielder several times. Another two people were wounded. The player died at a nearby hospital. President Juan Carlos Varela has condemned the killing on his Twitter account. February 15 2017 A homicide investigation is underway Wednesday after two bodies, presumed to be missing 13-year-olds Liberty German and Abigail Williams, were found on Tuesday. The two school friends were last seen on Monday afternoon after they went for a hike along the Delphi Historic Trail in Carroll County, Indiana - just a few miles from home. Sgt.
