ROYAL RULE BROKEN BY MEGHAN MARKLE AT HER ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

By

Prince Harry's Engagement To Meghan Markle Barely breaking the rules: Meghan Markle didn't wear pantyhose to her engagement announcement with Prince Harry on Monday. She hasn't even married her prince yet and Meghan Markle has already committed her first royal fashion faux pas — she went bare-legged in public!

The 36-year-old "Suits" star showed up sans pantyhose to her engagement announcement with Prince Harry on Monday, and apparently that's a something of a royal no-no, reports The Cut.

While the rule isn't exactly set in stone in some strict royal-family style book, enthusiasts of the monarchy note that Queen Elizabeth herself has worn pantyhose in public for the past, oh, 91 years.

Kate Middleton, too, famously wears pantyhose. In fact, many credit the stylish duchess, who usually wears glossy, sheer tights in public, with bringing hose back in vogue for younger Brits.

According to a WWD 2012 report, after Kate and William's royal wedding in 2011, sales of sheer tights went up by 46 percent at the U.S. luxury department store Selfridges and 500 percent at the British supermarket chain Asda.

The trend even made its way across the pond to the U.S., where fashionistas know it's still going strong today.

Of course, Markle —who ran her own lifestyle blog called The Tig until this past April — did follow another unspoken royal fashion tradition on Monday: Her nails were painted in a natural-looking color just like the Queen Mum, who's reportedly worn a pale pink shade called "Ballet Slippers" by Essie for nearly three decades.

Will Markle continue to go boldly bare-legged? We'll have to wait and see.

North Korea said the new missile reached an altitude of about 4,475 km (2,780 miles) - more than 10 times the height of the International Space Station - and flew 950 km (590 miles) during its 53-minute flight. Images released by North Korea on Thursday appeared to show it has succeeded in developing a missile capable of delivering a nuclear weapon anywhere in the United States and it could be only two or three tests away from being declared combat ready, U.S.-based experts said on Thursday. North Korea released dozens of photos and a video after Wednesday's launch of the new Hwasong-15 missile, and leader Kim Jong Un declared the country had "finally realized the great historic cause of completing the state nuclear force". U.S.-based experts, some of whom have been sceptical about past North Korean claims to have put all of the United States in range, said data from the latest test and the photos appeared to confirm North Korea has a missile of suffici...

© Charles Manson sits in the courtroom during his murder trial in Los Angeles in 1970. Mass murderer Charles Manson remained alive Friday, authorities said, but details of the illness that brought him to a Bakersfield hospital remains unclear. Vicky Waters, a spokeswoman with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, said that Manson was still living and that the department could not provide any further details. Kern County Sheriff's Lt. Bill Smallwood told The Times earlier this week that Manson was at a local hospital. In January, Manson, 83, was rushed to Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield for what authorities at the time would describe only as a serious medical problem. He was returned to prison a few days later. Though officials cannot comment on where specifically Manson is being treated or why, California Department of Corrections regulations provide a glimpse of how tightly coordinated the process must be. "They remain under CDCR c...

By
Image
© Lena Dunham "Girls" creator and star Lena Dunham is speaking out in defence of Murray Miller, a former producer and star on her HBO comedy, who stands accused of raping underage actress Aurora Perrineau. "While our first instinct is to listen to every woman's story, our insider knowledge of Murray's situation makes us confident that sadly this accusation is one of the 3% of assault cases that are misreported every year," Dunham said through spokesperson. The statement was co-signed by her "Girls" showrunner Jenni Konner. "It is a true shame to add to that number, as outside of Hollywood women still struggle to be believed. We stand by Murray and this is all we'll be saying about this issue," Dunham continued. Perrineau, who starred in Jennifer Lawrence's "Passengers" and is the daughter of actor Harold Perrineau, filed a police report with the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station on Friday say...

By

The drug convictions of 15 men in Chicago have been thrown out after they claimed they were framed years earlier by a police sergeant, who went to prison for a related crime, and his team of officers. The dismissal of charges against the men, who together had 18 convictions, is believed to the first-ever mass exoneration in Cook County, the nation's second most populous county.   "In these cases, we concluded, unfortunately, the police were not being truthful, and we couldn't have confidence in the integrity of their reports and their testimony, and so, in good conscience, we could not see these convictions stand," Mark Rotert of the Cook County Conviction Integrity Unit said in a news conference. Seven other officers have been placed on desk duty pending an internal review of more incidents, the Chicago Police Department told CNN. Those officers all worked under Watts, CNN affiliate WBBM reported. Rotert, of the state's attorney's office,...
