Boko Haram attacks Borno again, scores feared dead

Attackers believed to be Boko Haram members have killed unknown number of people and injured several others in an ambush on motorists in Borno state on Saturday, January 28.

Suspected Boko Haram fighters have reportedly attacked motorists on a popular Borno road.
Vanguard reports that the ambush occurred along Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu road between old Nigerian Telecommunications (NITEL) mast called Dogon Wire and deserted Bullabulin village.
The report quotes a driver Mallam Aliyu Yau as claiming that he managed to escape with some of his passengers but several others were not so lucky.
He said: “Most of the passengers killed and injured were not by Boko Haram sect, but by military escorts who opened fire on fleeing passengers into the bush, mistaking them as escaping terrorists.
“It is unfortunate that our road is not safe today (Saturday morning) as some Boko Haram terrorists laid ambush on the road. It is regrettable that during the ambush and exchange of gunfire between military escorts and the terrorists, many passengers took to their heels into the bush, and most of them fell victim in the cross fire..
“I cannot ascertain the number of those killed as I managed to escape with my passengers. But I learnt that scores of people were killed or injured.”

Meanwhile, statistics have shown that January 2017 has been full of deaths for Nigerians.
While it is true that people die daily, the deaths recorded below occurred on a scale that affected the country as a whole.

A man’s body has been discovered on the former BBC studios site in Manchester city centre. The body was found this morning at the building site on Oxford Road, which is currently being transformed into student flats. Greater Manchester Police have been called to the scene and the area has been taped off. Forensics officers have also been seen combing the area. Police are working to establish the circumstances behind the man’s death. The victim is believed to have been discovered by building site staff on Monday morning. A 300 Level student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana has reportedly raped a ten-year-old girl to death. The student was said to have anally raped the girl for over three years, damaging her anus and feeding her with a cocktail of painkillers which caused her kidneys to fail, killing her. Reports from Ghanaian online news media said the young man was arrested on Tuesday after the girl was taken to the hospital following her complaints of pains in her anus. Medical tests at the hospital showed she had been sodomised, and revealed damages to her intestines and kidney. The young man is reported to have given the 10-year-old girl eight tablets of paracetamol to kill the pains anytime he has sexual intercourse with her through the anus. He is also reported to have warned the girl not to reveal his sexual encounters with her to anyone or else she will die.
