GUNMEN KILL NSCDC OFFICER IN EKITI
An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ekiti State, Sunday Afolabi, was shot dead on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, by gunmen.
A source at the command of NSCDC, who spoke in confidence, said Afolabi was killed on Afao Road at 3.30 p.m.
The late officer was killed barely one month after his wife was delivered of their first baby.
But the police said Afolabi was killed by suspected “cult boys”.
His body was recovered from the scene and deposited at a mortuary.
NSCDC spokesman Tolu Afolabi confirmed the killing to reporters yesterday.
He said investigation had begun into the incident to unmask the killers.
The late Afolabi, who served in the Intelligence and Investigation Unit of Ekiti NSCDC, was reportedly shot in the heart.
He is survived by a wife and a one-month-old baby.
The slain officer, who was said to be 35, joined the security agency in 2010.
He hailed from Ayegbaju-Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area.
Officers at the command headquarters discussed the incident in hushed tones.
NSCDC spokesman said: “Unknown gunmen have killed an officer of NSCDC, Sunday Afolabi, an Assistant Superintendent Corps 1 (ASC1), on Afao Road in Ad-Ekiti at 15.30 hours (3.30 p.m) on Wednesday, April 19.
“The officer was shot in the heart and his body has been deposited at the mortuary while investigation continues.”
Police spokesman Alberto Adeyemi said Afolabi was killed by suspected cult boys on Afao Road.
Adeyemi said: “I have just spoken with OC-SARS and he said the cult boys killed the person on Afao Road where the NSCDC office is located.
“We sympathise with our sister security agency on the killing of the officer. Investigation has begun into the incident.”
