TRADITIONAL RULERS ALLEGEDLY AIDING MILITANT/CRIMINAL ATTACKS

The Nigerian police have accused traditional rulers and chiefs in Ikorodu of working with criminals in their communities to unleash terror on residents.

 Commissioner of Police in Lagos State Fatai Owoseni said on Sunday at a meeting with the traditional rulers that the worsening cases of violence in Ikorodu is being sponsored by Baales in the area.

 ”They allow militants to build houses harbouring criminals in the creeks,” he said.The Lagos state police boss urged the royal fathers to call their chiefs to order. He added that the meeting was convened to tell the traditional rulers that their ”silent conspiracy will no longer be tolerated.”

 ”Traditional rulers cannot tell me they don’t know who is who in their domain; all communities are advised to organise their local vigilantes,” Owoseni said.

 According to him, most kidnappings, killings and other violent crimes in Lagos take place in Ikorodu area and called on communities to partner the security management.

IPOB STANDS PROSCRIBED A TERRORIST GROUP -FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

The Federal Government of Nigeria, Tuesday, threw its weight on the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the categorisation of IPOB as a terrorist organisation by both the south-east governors and the Nigerian army, respectively, saying the activities of the group are similar to those of other terrorist groups. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed disclosed this on Tuesday when he appeared on a live TV programme "Good Morning Nigeria" on the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA). After weeks of intensive manhunt, the Lagos state police command has arrested one Ismaila Adeyemi, 49, the suspected mastermind and killer of Hector Jobateh (the 2007 winner of Gulder Ultimate search) who was traced and shot dead at his residence at New Oko-Oba in Agege, Lagos State. The suspect who was arrested at gas line Ominiyi in Ijoko area of Ogun state, confessed to the crime and other numerous crimes, while other members of his gang have been arrested.  People fleeing from violence in Central African Republic . Thousands of people have fled their homes as violence continues to engulf the south-eastern city of Bangassou in the Central African Republic (CAR), the UN on said Monday. More than 3,000 people had fled within hours of violence erupting late Friday when members of the mainly-Christian anti-Balaka militia attacked civilians and a UN field office. UN peacekeepers exchanged fire with anti-Balaka Monday, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said. Dujarric did not comment on reports that militiamen had agreed to leave the city on condition that UN troops stop firing at them.
