FORMER BBC STUDIO CORDONED OFF AFTER MAN'S BODY WAS DISCOVERED
A man’s body has been discovered on the former BBC studios site in Manchester city centre.
The body was found this morning at the building site on Oxford Road, which is currently being transformed into student flats.
Greater Manchester Police have been called to the scene and the area has been taped off.
Forensics officers have also been seen combing the area.
Police are working to establish the circumstances behind the man’s death.
The victim is believed to have been discovered by building site staff on Monday morning.
It is thought he gained access to the building site over the weekend.
A statement from GMP said: “Shortly before 7:50am on Monday, May 8, 2017, police were called to reports that a body had been found on Oxford Road in Manchester city centre.
“Enquiries are on-going to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.”
It is understood building staff working on the site have been told to stop working until further notice.
An eyewitness said: “A body has been found, he might have tried to jump or has climbed onto the equipment.
“There are police on the site now and forensics.”
