NIGERIAN FIRST LADY AND EMIR OF KANO VISIT 6 MONTH OLD VICTIM OF RAPE

 Following the shocking story of a little toddler being raped in Kano, the wife of the President and the Emir of Kano have paid a visit to the innocent victim.

 The wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, and the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, on Saturday, condemned the rape of a six-month-old baby, stressing that the culprit must be made to face the music.

 The infant, who is now eight months old, was allegedly violated by 30-year-old Muktakar Muhammad, assisted by his wife.

 Mrs. Buhari, who paid the baby a visit at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano State, described the rape case as man’s inhumanity to man.

 She also commended the Kano State Government for taking measures to save the life of the minor.

 The Emir of Kano, who visited the hospital earlier, urged security agencies and the state government to ensure that the culprits were brought to book.

 The monarch consoled the parents of the baby and promised that the Emirate Council would do its best to ensure the welfare of the child and her parents.

 The Kano State Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, in a statement, said the state government had vowed to get justice for the baby.

 Garba said, “We are deeply saddened by a story of a six-month old baby girl, allegedly raped by a close confidant in Kano. The government of Kano says it will make whoever is found guilty the first to pay the supreme price of life imprisonment.

 “Already, (Governor Abdullahi) Ganduje has directed the state Ministry of Justice to handle the matter properly by ensuring that it is delivered to the letter.

 “Whoever is involved in this sordid sexual crime will be prosecuted under the relevant provision contained in the Kano State Penal Code Amendment Law, referred to as the ‘Principal Law’ as amended under section 283.”

 The state government assured the baby’s parents and sympathisers that appropriate legal action would be taken, while promising that the state would bear the cost of the victim’s medical treatment.

20 KILLED IN HERDSMEN ATTACK

A herdsman carrying a gun Herdsmen armed with guns killed 20 farmers and injured eight other people in a mosque in Niger state over the weekend, police said on Monday. Fighting over land use between semi-nomadic cattle herders and more settled communities, claims hundreds of lives yearly in the middle belt and in northern Nigeria. Last year, the government said preventing attacks was a security priority. Bala Elkana, a spokesman for Niger state police, said the attack happened at about 05:00 a.m. (0400 GMT) on Saturday at Epogi community, in the Mokwa area of the state. “It was a clash between farmers and herders which had been initially handled but some herders felt unsatisfied and … they launched a reprisal attack on some villagers praying in a mosque,” Elkana said. Three people had been arrested, he said. Nigeria’s poor transport and communications infrastructure can slow the speed at which reports of events in some rural communities are passed on.

A man’s leg was ‘nearly severed’ during a machete attack in north Manchester. The victim also suffered serious head injuries when he was slashed with the weapon at an address on Kingscliffe Street, Harpurhey , on Thursday afternoon. A silver Jeep is said to have pulled up outside the property just before 1.30pm. Three men got out of the vehicle and forced their way into the terraced house, police said. Months after an initial interception, another container filled with arms has been discovered at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos, the Nigeria Customs has declared on Tuesday. A source at the port said the container was found at the Ports and Cargo Terminal of the Tin Can Island Ports. “As I speak to you, they’ve ordered everyone to go out of the terminal and they have locked up everywhere,” the source said. The spokesperson of the Nigeria Customs, Tin Can Island Command, Uche Ejesieme, confirmed the incident and said details would be made public later. “We are still counting,” Mr. Ejesieme told Premium Times over the phone.
