OUR LAND MUST BE HEALED: PRESS RELEASE ON THE UGEP CRISIS OF JUNE 29, 2017

Yesterday, June 29, 2017 I lost my nephew , Jude Iroh Junior in the cult related war currently ravaging Ugep, my ancestral home. As painful as the loss of this relative is, many of us saw it coming. I didn't know I will be a direct victim. It would have been any of us.

For years, I have been raising alarms on the stockpiling of arms by politicians and the arming of jobless youths by them for elections. This hydra-headed demon they created is what has also snowballed into the present crisis.

As a community, we know the perpetrators of these crimes. They are our siblings and friends. However, we continue to shield them. Today I am a victim. Tomorrow it will be you. In my family's case, we have summoned my nephew who was killed yesterday to a family meeting some weeks earlier and directed him to quit when we learnt he is a member of a blood thirstily and murderous cult group known as Viking  . He acknowledged his membership and said he will work towards renouncing it. I am not sure he did until he met his untimely death.

Today, we all need to rise against this devil that is becoming part of our land. The Ugep man is never known to spill the blood of his person. But today it is done in Ugep in the full view of everyone. How did we get to this level? Where is our conscience? Where is our humanity?

It is also unfortunate that the Palace that should be in the vanguard to cure the land of this menace is also been fingered. This is the time for all of us to act and tell ourselves the truth. Nobody should be spared no matter how highly placed. I am going to champion this. The death of my nephew is also an extra motivation. Our land must be healed.

MAN WHO KIDNAPPED OWN GF AND RECEIVED N200K RANSOM ARRESTED ALONGSIDE OTHERS

Benue State Police Command has busted two kidnap syndicate of 8 including a Gang of 4 allegedly led by a woman believed to be an associate of the wanted militant leader, Terwase Agwaza, aka Gana, who a week ago abducted a businessman. The police operation also led to the arrest of three women whose responsibilities were to provide food for the victims, who was rescued alive. The businessman was kidnapped alongside his son, who was later released to source N20 million as ransom for his father.  The state's Police Commissioner, Bashir Makama, said: "During investigations, we discovered that the lady, who was arrested had the responsibility of pencilling down those to be kidnapped and those to be killed by the gang. They are all associates of Gana, the wanted militant leader. Also arrested, after reliable information, is one Victor Ayanngor, who conspired with Ordue Abraham, Kelvin Dankor and Emmanuel Terver to kidnap his girlfriend and collect N200,000 ransom."

3 SUSPECTED THIEVES ARRESTED AT THE LAGOS HIGH COURT

File Photo The Police at the Lion Building Division, Lagos Island, Lagos have arrested three suspected thieves who allegedly jumped into the High Court premises at Igbosere Road on Lagos Island at midnight with dangerous weapons to steal. The suspects, according to a Police source could not succeed in their plans before the Police stormed the scene to arrest them and took them to the station following a distress call to the Police by the securitymen attached to the Court. The suspects were arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court on a three-count charge of felony with attempt to commit felony at the High Court, Lagos. Taheeb Udusole, 27, met his victims on social media while pretending to be a 17-year-old boy called, Daniel, who was rich due to his father being an African king.  The unemployed Nigerian offered the girls, aged 14 and 15, gifts and money while he sent taxis to collect them and bring them near his home in south-east London.
