GROUP GIVES BUHARI THREE WEEKS TO RETURN TO NIGERIA

File: President Buhari has been in London on medical leave for over three months

Anti-Buhari protesters #ResumeOrResign movement has said it would take President Muhammadu Buhari  to court should he fail to return to Nigeria within 21 days.

The group vowed in a statement that it would go to court to seek an order of mandamus to compel the Federal Executive Council to set up a committee to appraise the health of the president.

London vigil

It further announced that during this time, it will hold its sit-out at the Freedom Park, Ojota, between 9-10a.m each day.

A vigil will also be held in front of the Abuja House in London on Friday, August 18, commencing at 1700hrs.

The statement was signed by Charles Oputa, Leader, #ResumeOrResign Movement, for Our Mumu Don Do Movement; Deji Adeyanju Co-Convener, #ResumeOrResign, for Concerned Nigerians; and Ariyo-Dare Atoye, Co-Convener, #ResumeOrResign, for Coalition in Defence of Nigerian Democracy and Constitution (CDNDC).

President Buhari has been out of the country for over hundred days on medical leave.

A herdsman carrying a gun Herdsmen armed with guns killed 20 farmers and injured eight other people in a mosque in Niger state over the weekend, police said on Monday. Fighting over land use between semi-nomadic cattle herders and more settled communities, claims hundreds of lives yearly in the middle belt and in northern Nigeria. Last year, the government said preventing attacks was a security priority. Bala Elkana, a spokesman for Niger state police, said the attack happened at about 05:00 a.m. (0400 GMT) on Saturday at Epogi community, in the Mokwa area of the state. “It was a clash between farmers and herders which had been initially handled but some herders felt unsatisfied and … they launched a reprisal attack on some villagers praying in a mosque,” Elkana said. Three people had been arrested, he said. Nigeria’s poor transport and communications infrastructure can slow the speed at which reports of events in some rural communities are passed on.

In a bid to improve working conditions in the city’s sex industry, a brothel run by prostitutes themselves will be opened today by the mayor of Amsterdam. An initiative of the city council, the new brothel occupies 14 “windows” across four buildings on the so-called Wallen, Amsterdam’s red light district. About 40 sex workers will be able to operate out of the premises, which are being run by a foundation called My Red Light, in which prostitutes take an active part. “Everything in this project, from the statutes to the decoration of the rooms, is thought out by sex workers,” said one of the prostitutes involved, who asked to remain anonymous. “It is my hope that My Red Light will offer pleasant workspaces, where sex workers can be who they are and feel welcome.” Prostitution has been legal in the Netherlands since 2000. A man’s leg was ‘nearly severed’ during a machete attack in north Manchester. The victim also suffered serious head injuries when he was slashed with the weapon at an address on Kingscliffe Street, Harpurhey , on Thursday afternoon. A silver Jeep is said to have pulled up outside the property just before 1.30pm. Three men got out of the vehicle and forced their way into the terraced house, police said. Eyewitnesses told how a man was then attacked outside with a machete. Paramedics were also called to the address and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remained in a stable condition on Thursday night, officers said.
