GUNMEN ATTACKED ANTI CORRUPTION AGENCY,LEAVE DEATH THREAT MESSAGE FOR TOP INVESTIGATION AGENT

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says its headquarters in Abuja was attacked yesterday by gunmen, who threatened to kill one of the agency's top investigators.

"A major security breach was recorded at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in the early hours of Wednesday, August 16, 2017, as unknown gunmen attacked the office located at Wuse Zone 7, Abuja," the EFCC said in a statement by its spokesperson, Mr Wilson Uwajaren.

"The group of heavily armed bandits invaded the office at about 05.00 hours and began shooting into the premises, damaging vehicles parked on the premises in the process. However, the attack was repelled by guards on duty.

Although the attackers did not succeed in entering the complex, they left a death threat for one of the EFCC's detectives as they fled, the statement added.

The commission said the death threat was contained in a white envelope addressed to Ishaku Sharu, a senior investigator, who heads the foreign exchange malpractices fraud section and is in charge of the investigation of several politically exposed persons and top retired military officers for corruption.
According to the EFCC, the incident has been reported to the police.

The State Security Service (SSS), on Saturday, announced the arrest of Husseini Maitangaran, a top commander of by Islamic State of West Africa (ISWA), otherwise known as Boko Haram. Policemen from the Ipakodo division have arrested a suspected killer of a family of three in Ibeshe Titun, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. It was learnt that the suspect, whose identity had yet to be ascertained, was arrested on Tuesday in the community. A resident, who asked not to be identified, said the suspect had been taken into custody and was being interrogated by the police. German national dies after slumping at Lagos airport A German national, Mr Brenard Christo, who slumped  on Friday  at the General Aviation Terminal of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, has died at an undisclosed hospital. The spokesman for the Lagos Airport Police Command, DSP Joseph Alabi, confirmed the death of the German to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  on Saturday .
