NO 1 POLICE BOSS ASKS COURTS TO STOP SENATE FROM PROBING HIM

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has asked the High Court of the FCT to restrain the Senate from investigating him.

Senator Isah Misua (APC-Bauchi Central) had alleged that Idris collected about N10 billion monthly from some firms and highly-placed Nigerians for giving them security cover.

He also accused Idris of extorting money, ranging from N10 to N15 million, from Commissioners of Police, State Mobile Commanders and Special Protection Units Commanders, for favourable posting.

The police boss, in a fundamental rights enforcement suit marked FCT/HC /CV/ 3158 /17, prayed the court to declare both the Senate committee, set up to probe the allegations and the conduct of the committee as unconstitutional, null and void.

He also wants the court to make an order stopping the committee from inviting him, sitting, conducting any hearing on the allegation , discussing or making any report in respect of the planned probe pending the determination of his suit.

Senate President Bukola Saraki had mandated the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to investigate the circumstances surrounding Misau's disengagement from the Nigeria Police.

The State Security Service (SSS), on Saturday, announced the arrest of Husseini Maitangaran, a top commander of by Islamic State of West Africa (ISWA), otherwise known as Boko Haram. He was arrested in Kano on 31 August.  Maitangaran, according to a statement issued by the service, spearheaded several deadly attacks in Kano in 2012. Policemen from the Ipakodo division have arrested a suspected killer of a family of three in Ibeshe Titun, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. It was learnt that the suspect, whose identity had yet to be ascertained, was arrested on Tuesday in the community. A resident, who asked not to be identified, said the suspect had been taken into custody and was being interrogated by the police. He said, “The man was arrested this morning (Tuesday) and he confessed to being a member of the gang that attacked and killed members of the family. German national dies after slumping at Lagos airport A German national, Mr Brenard Christo, who slumped  on Friday  at the General Aviation Terminal of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, has died at an undisclosed hospital. The spokesman for the Lagos Airport Police Command, DSP Joseph Alabi, confirmed the death of the German to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  on Saturday . Alabi said the deceased was waiting to board a local Arik Air flight  on Friday  morning when he suddenly collapsed.
