NO 1 POLICE BOSS ASKS COURTS TO STOP SENATE FROM PROBING HIM

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has asked the High Court of the FCT to restrain the Senate from investigating him.

Senator Isah Misua (APC-Bauchi Central) had alleged that Idris collected about N10 billion monthly from some firms and highly-placed Nigerians for giving them security cover.

He also accused Idris of extorting money, ranging from N10 to N15 million, from Commissioners of Police, State Mobile Commanders and Special Protection Units Commanders, for favourable posting.

The police boss, in a fundamental rights enforcement suit marked FCT/HC /CV/ 3158 /17, prayed the court to declare both the Senate committee, set up to probe the allegations and the conduct of the committee as unconstitutional, null and void.

He also wants the court to make an order stopping the committee from inviting him, sitting, conducting any hearing on the allegation , discussing or making any report in respect of the planned probe pending the determination of his suit.

Senate President Bukola Saraki had mandated the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to investigate the circumstances surrounding Misau's disengagement from the Nigeria Police.

WHISTLE BLOWER ASSISTS NAFDAC UNCOVER N200 MILLION FAKE PRODUCTS

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has uncovered fake and unregistered products valued at over N200 million. The products, confiscated through a whistle-blower’s report, were stocked in a building at 11, Omotosho Crescent, off Ewedana Street, Toll Gate, Ota in Ogun State.  The building also served as production outlet for bitters with fake NAFDAC registration numbers. At a briefing in Lagos yesterday, Acting Director-General of NAFDAC, Mrs. Yetunde Oni, explained that the building is a bungalow of five bedrooms, with two residential rooms, while the other three, the parlour and the kitchen were used for production of unregistered, deceptive and counterfeit products. The Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mr. Francis Bolaji Odesanya has died in an Indian hospital after an assumed kidney failure. He was the 37th Rivers State Commissioner of Police, having succeeded Mr. Foluso Adebanjo on July 12, 2016. Happy grooms Jahed Choudhury, 24, and Sean Rogan, 19, tied the knot wearing traditional golden Sherwanis in a civil ceremony at Walsall registry office.
