NO 1 POLICE BOSS ASKS COURTS TO STOP SENATE FROM PROBING HIM

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has asked the High Court of the FCT to restrain the Senate from investigating him.

Senator Isah Misua (APC-Bauchi Central) had alleged that Idris collected about N10 billion monthly from some firms and highly-placed Nigerians for giving them security cover.

He also accused Idris of extorting money, ranging from N10 to N15 million, from Commissioners of Police, State Mobile Commanders and Special Protection Units Commanders, for favourable posting.

The police boss, in a fundamental rights enforcement suit marked FCT/HC /CV/ 3158 /17, prayed the court to declare both the Senate committee, set up to probe the allegations and the conduct of the committee as unconstitutional, null and void.

He also wants the court to make an order stopping the committee from inviting him, sitting, conducting any hearing on the allegation , discussing or making any report in respect of the planned probe pending the determination of his suit.

Senate President Bukola Saraki had mandated the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to investigate the circumstances surrounding Misau's disengagement from the Nigeria Police.

A young teenage couple accused of snatching their newborn baby from hospital have been briefly reunited with their daughter after five days apart. Jayden Lavender, 14, and fiancée Jenifer Morrison, 15, smuggled three-day-old Aria out of the hospital in Sydney at 12.30am on Thursday. Their disappearance sparked a huge search before the pair were found safe and well 16 hours later after spending a night camping with the infant. 2 TERRORIST COMMANDERS SURRENDER SELVES TO POLICE

The Borno State Police Command said on Wednesday that as a result of "Operation Safe Corridor," the counter-terrorism effort of the Nigerian military, two high profile commanders of the Boko Haram militant group have surrendered, along with their families. In a statement to newsmen in Maiduguri by its public relations officer, DSP Victor Isuku, the command said that 13 civilians were also rescued from suspected kidnappers, with two of the hoodlums dying of injuries received in a gun battle with the police. Two AK-47 rifles were also recovered. Unknown Gunmen Kill University Student, Watchman In Jigawa. 17th Feb 2017, A 27-year-old university student, Muhammad Garzali, was killed by unidentified assailants at Kafinhausa town of Kafinhausa Local Government Area of Jigawa.
