BUENOS AIRES, Argentina –  A Roman Catholic nun from Japan has been arrested and charged on suspicion of helping priests sexually abuse children at a school for youths with hearing disabilities in Argentina, authorities said. Kosaka Kumiko was also charged with physically abusing the students at the Antonio Provolo Institute for children with hearing impairment in northwestern Mendoza province. Kumiko, who was born in Japan but has Argentine citizenship, denied any wrongdoing during an eight-hour court hearing late Thursday. Suspected gunmen have killed the paramount ruler of Orokpor village in Rumueme Community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Charles Miniku. Sources said the man, identified as Christian, 44, locked himself in a room and hung himself with a rope on Saturday. A source said the deceased, who was unmarried, was staying with his brother and was said to have been recently transferred to Lagos before the incident happened. The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, said the brother whom the deceased stayed with was at a barber’s shop when the incident happened. A 14-year-old housemaid, Mary Akinnifesi, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly attempting to kill her boss, Alhaji Nasiru Akinlosotu, with poison. It was gathered that the incident happened on Adetomowo Street, Ondo town, Ondo State, on Friday. Akinsolotu told PUNCH Metro that his wife asked Akinnifesi to prepare beans for the family, but the maid allegedly added rat poison to the food. A suspected kidnapper, Saliu Tola, has confessed before security operatives that he specialised in abducting rich ladies for ransom. Tola, a former soldier, was arrested in Asaba, Delta State by the police for alleged involvement in a series of abductions. While confessing to the crime, he said: “My victims have always been females. I have never gone for my kind. I kidnap valuable girls, ladies and women and this has never failed us. A man’s leg was ‘nearly severed’ during a machete attack in north Manchester. The victim also suffered serious head injuries when he was slashed with the weapon at an address on Kingscliffe Street, Harpurhey , on Thursday afternoon. A silver Jeep is said to have pulled up outside the property just before 1.30pm. Three men got out of the vehicle and forced their way into the terraced house, police said. A sexual predator who followed a teenage girl then sexually assaulted her has been jailed. Umar Iqbal, 25, approached the 16-year-old in Rochdale at around 3.30pm on Thursday, March 5, this year. Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court heard how Iqbal first walked after her along Yorkshire Street in the town centre. He then attempted to talk to her, but she felt uneasy and walked away. Iqbal told her he liked her and asked if she had a boyfriend. He took hold of her hand, pulled her towards a garage area and attempted to kiss her. The victim said no and pulled away, but Iqbal sexually assaulted her. She reported it to the police the next day and officers traced Iqbal.
