The former governor of Osun state and the Osun West senator, Isiaka Adeleke, is reported to have died of an overdose of painkillers. The drugs were administered to him by an unqualified medical technician. According to Sahara Reporters, the Senator received the medication following complaints of serious pain in his legs at the beginning of day-long political rally and meetings. It was learnt that preliminary results from pathologists show that the intravenous medication, fluid laced with a huge quantity of painkillers, conspired to block his heart leading to a heart attack that killed him. Reports that followed his death was that he had died of cardiac arrest, but the indigenes of his home town, Ede, insisted that they wanted to know the cause of his death, which prompted the state government to order an autopsy at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital. After weeks of intensive manhunt, the Lagos state police command has arrested one Ismaila Adeyemi, 49, the suspected mastermind and killer of Hector Jobateh (the 2007 winner of Gulder Ultimate search) who was traced and shot dead at his residence at New Oko-Oba in Agege, Lagos State. The suspect who was arrested at gas line Ominiyi in Ijoko area of Ogun state, confessed to the crime and other numerous crimes, while other members of his gang have been arrested. The suspects will be charged to court after investigation is concluded.

A chef, Godwin Obot, 40, was arraigned in Lagos on Wednesday for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s eight-year-old daughter after luring the girl into his room with soft drink. The accused was brought before a Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court, charged with defilement of a minor. Obot, however, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kikelomo Ayeye, directed that Obot must provide two sureties, one of whom should be a community leader. Ayeye said the other surety should be a civil servant on grade level 16. She said the accused should be remanded in prison if he failed to meet the bail conditions. The Prosecutor, Insp. Nurudeen Thomas, told court that Obot committed the offence on May 18 at about 2 p.m. at Esther Adeleke Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
