He is set to receive ODM defectors and officially open the Kongowea market which was opened on Friday, March 10 by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.

"I relocated 2,200 micro-traders that used to operate on the roadside within the Kongowea market to new table stalls that have been constructed by the County Government through the department of Trade," he said.

Joho oversaw the relocation of the traders in the market which has been the subject of a tussle between him and Uhuru since 2016.

In June, 2016, the two leaders ordered the speedy rehabilitation of the market with claims emerging Joho wanted to open it first before Uhuru from taking credit of devolved functions.

In January, 2017, Uhuru accused the county govt of stalling the allocation of stalls as an attempt by some leaders to sabotage upgrades his government had commissioned.
Joho and Kingi dismissed Uhuru’s visit in the region and accused Jubilee of politicking and riding on donor-funded projects instead of launching tangible programmes in the region.

A major stand-off is also expected on Sunday, March 12 as the two leaders have organised major rallies on the same day.
