RIVERS RERUN;111M RECOVERED FROM BRIBED ELECTORAL STAFF

The Nigeria Police has said it recovered 111 million Naira from some electoral officers who conducted the Rivers rerun elections showing cash evidence allegedly recovered from 23 suspects.

The recovered cash was shown to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris and others during submission of report of enquiry,the Inspector General vowed to end the culture of political violence perpetrated by politicians and promised that all those indicted by the panel's report,including six dismissed Police officers would be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others who see elections as a do or die affair.
Meanwhile,the Director,Voter Education and Publicity of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC,Mr Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, pledged to cooperate with the Police authorities in prosecuting the indicted officials.

There has been a lot of controversies since the conduct of the re-run election leading to allegations of bribery and intimidation.
When the panel was set up by the Police, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, openly criticized the composition of the investigative committee, saying he had no confidence in it.
He also set up his own committee to look into the complaints and allegation of fraud during the Rivers re-run election.The outcome of his own committee is what no one has seen or heard of.

Three Nigerian scammers who befriended many of their victims on dating sites have been slammed huge prison sentences by a Mississippi court after making tens of millions of dollars from their schemes. ANOTHER 155 NIGERIANS RETURN FROM LIBYA

Two weeks after 171 Nigerians voluntarily returned home from Libya, 155 others followed suit on Thursday aboard a chartered Nouvel Air aircraft with registration number TS-1NB. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the aircraft landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at about 6.00 p.m. Like the initial group which returned on March 7 after being stranded in Libya while enroute Europe, the returnees were brought back by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Nigerian Embassy in Libya. The meeting of the Federal Executive Council that holds every Wednesday did not hold yesterday. Yesterday would have afforded President Muhammadu Buhari who returned to the country on Saturday the opportunity of presiding over the council meeting for the first time in over three months. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, disclosed in a statement that the meeting would not hold. Adesina did not however disclose the reason behind the decision to cancel the meeting.
