South African Police Disperse Anti-Immigrant Protesters

About 156 people have been arrested for various crimes, during the anti-foreigners march in Pretoria.
South Africa’s National Police Chief Khomotso Phahlane says, the people were arrested for random acts of violence, looting and destruction of property.
It was unclear how many of those in custody were South Africans and how many are foreigners.
But the armed police had formed a barrier between citizens and non-nationals marching in Pretoria, when the crowd became unruly with both sides shouting at one another prompting the police to disperse the angry mobs.
Many shops were shuttered in Marabastad, an area situated in the west of the capital, where many foreign nationals have their stores, and roads were blocked as the protesters gathered.
Some of the foreigners carried rocks and sticks, saying they were ready to protect their stores.
The protest follows the looting this week of at least 20 small businesses believed to belong to Nigerian and Pakistani immigrants, in an area in west Pretoria.

Two Seattle police officers were shot Thursday while responding to a robbery at a 7-Eleven, according to the city's police department. The two officers, one male and one female, were brought to the Harborview Medical Center. The hospital tweeted that the male officer was upgraded to serious but stable condition, and that the female officer remained in satisfactory condition. One officer suffered a shot to the chest, but was wearing a vest sustained minor injuries. Tragedy as Mechanic in Lagos Kills Sales Boy in Broad Daylight 10/02/2017 The police in Lagos State have launched a manhunt for a mechanic, Fatai Bashiru, for allegedly killing a sales boy, Shedrach Emenike, aka Chiboy, in the Papa Ajao, Mushin area of the state. Punch Metro learnt that Bashiru stabbed the 23-year-old in the armpit and other parts of his body for allegedly scratching a car belonging to his customer. GUNMEN KILL NSCDC OFFICER IN EKITI

An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ekiti State, Sunday Afolabi, was shot dead on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, by gunmen. A source at the command of NSCDC, who spoke in confidence, said Afolabi was killed on Afao Road at 3.30 p.m. The late officer was killed barely one month after his wife was delivered of their first baby. But the police said Afolabi was killed by suspected “cult boys”. His body was recovered from the scene and deposited at a mortuary. NSCDC spokesman Tolu Afolabi confirmed the killing to reporters yesterday. He said investigation had begun into the incident to unmask the killers. The late Afolabi, who served in the Intelligence and Investigation Unit of Ekiti NSCDC, was reportedly shot in the heart. He is survived by a wife and a one-month-old baby. Kogi herbalist to die by hanging for killing 2 brothers A herbal medicine practitioner and ritualist, Ibrahim Mohammed, has been sentenced to death by hanging for killing two brothers in Koton-Karfe area of Kogi State. He was accused of killing two brothers, Muhammed Kudu Abubakar and Umar Tanko. The herbalist was said to have administered poison on them before hitting them on the head with a pestle and then buried their corpses in a shallow grave in his compound. The accused person had earlier pleaded guilty to the charges. While delivering his judgment, Justice Alaba Omoleye-Ajileye of Kogi State High Court in Koton-Karfe said the prosecution had proved its case beyond every reasonable doubt and therefore sentenced Mohammed to death by hanging.
