Appeal Court sacks APC Lawmaker

The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City has sacked the lawmaker representing Ovia South West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sunday Aghedo.
 It ordered Mr. Godwin Adenomo, a member of the All Progressive Congress, to be sworn in immediately.
 Adenomo had dragged the APC and the Committee that conducted the party primaries to court over imposition of the sacked lawmaker as the winner of the party primaries to the State House of Assembly in 2014.
He claimed he won the primaries but was denied the party’s ticket which was given to his opponent.
 A judgement of the High Court asked the APC to conduct a fresh primary for the position but Adenomo rejected the ruling and headed for the appellate court to get proper judgment.
Reacting to the judgment, the sacked lawmakers said he was already consulting with his lawyers.
His words, “I have no reaction. I am still consulting with my lawyers on what to do next.”

Amilcar Henriquez shot dead in his Panama home . Police in Panama say national team soccer player Amilcar Henriquez has been shot dead while leaving his home. The press chief for Panama’s National Police says the killing happened Saturday in the country’s Colon province. Authorities say a gunman shot the 33-year-old midfielder several times. Another two people were wounded. The player died at a nearby hospital. President Juan Carlos Varela has condemned the killing on his Twitter account. He is calling for authorities in Colon to find those responsible. Henriquez was part of the Panama team that is trying to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. A fire incident which happened on Saturday evening at Makoko and Satellite Town areas of Lagos State, has left a seven-day-old baby dead, and copies of West African Senior School Certificate Examination results badly burnt. Governor Nyesom Wike of Bayelsa Photo: Twitter The Rivers state government has condemned the escape, from police custody, of Ifeanyi Dike, a suspected rapist and killer of Victory Chikanso, an eight-year-old girl. The Rivers state deputy governor, Dr Ipalibo Banigo, in a statement on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, asked the Police and other law enforcement agen­cies to ensure that the suspect is re-arrested and brought to justice without delay. She stressed that the report that the suspect es­caped from the hands of the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) is "totally unaccept­able and very embarrass­ing." Banigo who condoled with the bereaved family on the gruesome murder of their daughter, said that "as a mother, I am still numb with shock to hear that a man could defile an eight-year-old girl and go ahead to mutilate her body for purported money rituals."
