Ex-Adamawa governor Ngilari jailed five years for corruption

       A Yola High Court on Monday sentenced a former  Governor of Adamawa state, Mr James Bala Ngilari, to five years in prison without the option of fine. He was found  guilty of the   corruption charge filed against him by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.The case was filed in September 2016. The court presided over by Justice Nathan Musa,acquitted the former Secretary to the State Government,Mr Andrew Welye, and Former Commissioner of Finance, Mr Sunday Lamurde, who stood trial with the former governor on same offenses of 17 count charges. Ex-Governor Bala Ngilari: Jailed five years Delivering judgement, Justice Musa,said that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Ngilari violated the Public Procurement Act of the state by awarding contract for the procurement of 25 vehicles for his commissioners at the cost of N167 million without following due process. 
        He said Ngilari’s action amounted to executive lawlessness. Musa said that the five years was the least he could give Ngilari,  whose lawyer, Mr Samuel Toni (SAN) pleaded for leniency “in view of his (Ngilari) invaluable contribution while he was the governor of the state during the trying moment of insurgency.” Musa said that Ngilari would serve the sentence in the prison of his choice in the country “but for now he should start with Yola prison.” Musa expressed hope that the conviction and sentence of Ngilari would serve as a deterrent to serving governors who engage in doing things without following due process. “It is my hope that this conviction and sentence will serve as deterrent to serving governors..” The judge however discharged and acquitted Welye and Lamurde, saying that the prosecutor could not prove the case against them. Ngilari told newsmen before he was taken away from the court that he would appeal the sentence.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Memphis preschool worker has been charged with aggravated child abuse after police say she dragged a 16-month-old boy by one leg and broke the other. Police said the toddler was injured September 20 at the M.E.M. Preschool and Summer Camp on Macon road while he was being watched by Omeika Williams. Investigators said Williams told the child’s parents the boy tripped over a rug and hurt his left leg, but video from the preschool showed her dragging the boy by his right leg causing his left to twist under his body. The child was diagnosed with a fractured left tibia and is now in a leg cast. We tried to contact the preschool, but no one answered at the business.

An Ile-Ife Magistrate Court has remanded one Isreal Ojimi, 38, said to be a prophet and Bose Adetimikan, 27, in prison custody over alleged rituals. The prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 20, 2017, around 10:00 pm at Mosarajo area via Ile-Ife. According to him, they had armed themselves with some charms in the form of a garment with an intention to commit felony. He further explained that they conducted themselves in a manner that caused mayhem, adding that their behavior was against the norms and ethics of the nation and had contravened sections 213, 249 (d) and 516 of the State Penal Code. Although defence counsel, Mr Alaba Awoseemo pleaded for their bail in most libral terms, the plea was not accepted. The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, May 9, remanded a politician identified as Charles Eni-Umukoro over the murder of his wife, Louisa Eni-Umukoro, who was a director in the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Justice Mary-Anne Aninih ordered the remand of Eni-Umukoro in Kuje Prison, FCT pending the hearing of his bail application. The Inspector General of Police (IGP) in February charged Umukoro with culpable homicide, which is punishable with death under Section 221 of the Penal Code. The defendant however denied the allegation. Amilcar Henriquez shot dead in his Panama home . Police in Panama say national team soccer player Amilcar Henriquez has been shot dead while leaving his home. The press chief for Panama’s National Police says the killing happened Saturday in the country’s Colon province. Authorities say a gunman shot the 33-year-old midfielder several times. Another two people were wounded. The player died at a nearby hospital. President Juan Carlos Varela has condemned the killing on his Twitter account. He is calling for authorities in Colon to find those responsible. Henriquez was part of the Panama team that is trying to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He played in the last 20 minutes of Panama’s 1-1 tie with the United States last month and has appeared 75 times for his country.

February 15 2017 A homicide investigation is underway Wednesday after two bodies, presumed to be missing 13-year-olds Liberty German and Abigail Williams, were found on Tuesday. The two school friends were last seen on Monday afternoon after they went for a hike along the Delphi Historic Trail in Carroll County, Indiana - just a few miles from home. Sgt.
