NIGERIAN LABOUR CONGRESS KICKS AGAINST IMMUNITY FOR LAWMAKERS

The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba

National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba, has condemned the recent move by the National Assembly to grant immunity to its principal officers.

He decried the move while speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Friday.

Wabba said public office holders should not be seeking protections, adding that immunity has not helped Nigeria in anyway.

"On the issue of immunity, as NLC we have made the point very clear that the issue of immunity has not assisted to a larger extent especially in the context of transparency, accountability and the rule of law and I think that is an issue that should not arise.

"We have made statements in the recent past saying that in other spheres even Presidents, governors can also be interrogated and also prosecuted on very clear criminal issues and that has been our position. If you begin to possibly expand this issue of immunity then it will not benefit our system.

"As far as I am concerned, it has been clearly proven that even after office some of those people have not demonstrated that this has been used for the benefit of Nigerians.

"Our position is that, that ought not to be and it is from the progressive position that we have made in the time past.

"Our position is nobody should even benefit from immunity," he said.

BUHARI MAY RETURN TO THE UK FOR FURTHER TREATMENT IN THREE WEEKS

Buhari May Return To The UK For Further Treatment In Three Weeks March 10th, 2017 In a clear indication that President Muhammadu Buhari’s return earlier today from London was premature and motivated by political pressure from some of his closest associates, Presidency and medical sources have told Saharareporters that the ailing Nigerian leader is set to return to the United Kingdom in three weeks to continue treatment for an undisclosed illness. Saharareporters had consistently disclosed that members of Mr. Buhari’s medical team in the UK had advised against his return to Nigeria at this time, adding that some members of his political circle, afraid that their influence was about to slip, pressured the frail and still ill president to return to Nigeria in order to quell anxiety that he was too gravely ill to continue in office. Early this morning, a presidential jet carrying Mr. Buhari landed at the Kaduna Airport in the capital of Kaduna State. The terribly emaciated and f...

ROGER MOORE;THE LEGEND GOES HOME

By
Image
LONDON -- Roger Moore, the suavely insouciant star of seven James Bond films, has died in Switzerland. He was 89. The British actor died Tuesday after a short battle with cancer, according to a family statement posted on Moore's official Twitter account. "We know our own love and admiration will be magnified many times over, across the world, by people who knew him for his films, his television shows and his passionate work for UNICEF, which he considered to be his greatest achievement," the statement said. IN ACTION IN THE MOVIE "FOR YOUR EYES ONLY" Moore's relaxed style and sense of whimsy, which relied heavily on the arched eyebrow, seemed a commentary on the essential ridiculousness of the Bond films, in which the handsome British secret agent was as adept at mixing martinis, bedding beautiful women and ordering gourmet meals as he was at disposing of super-villains trying to take over the world. "To me, the Bond situations are so rid...

Members of Boko Haram Boko Haram insurgents have killed six men in a village in northeast Nigeria on Tuesday in what appeared to be a targeted reprisal attack. A militia fighting the group said nine Boko Haram fighters allegedly entered Kijimatari, a village in north-east Borno state, at around 2 am (0100 GMT), breaking into the homes of six men including the village chief before slitting their throats. "The attackers evaded a nearby military checkpoint by entering the village through bush paths," said Ibrahim Liman, the head of a local anti-jihadist militia force. "The chief of the village was among the victims and it was clear the victims were deliberately targeted." Local resident Kulo Musa said that while the attackers had carried guns, they "chose to use knives" to avoid alerting soldiers manning a nearby checkpoint. Musa said the killings were a reprisal for the arrest of two Boko Haram members who moved into the village claiming to have been displac...
