POLICE DECLARE SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBER WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH POLICE SHOOTING

The Imo State Police Command has declared a suspected armed robber, Ekene Amadi, wanted for allegedly shooting a police Inspector, Oliver Nwaba.

According to a statement issued by police spokesperson in the state, Andrew Enwerem, the officer was shot during an attack by Amadi's gang on policemen at Nipping Point at Nkaraha Junction, along Owerri-Port Harcourt Road.

Enwerem said the 26-year-old Amadi, who is on the run, had earlier been apprehended by the police on May 22, 2017, arraigned in court and remanded in Owerri prison.

The suspect was, however, said to have been released by the court, after which he allegedly went back to his criminal activities, terrorising Nkaraha Junction and Ohaji in the Ohaji /Egbema Local Government Area of the state.

The police urged anybody with information on the whereabouts of the wanted robbery suspect, who hails from Umuna Umuagwo Mgbisi in Ohaji /Egbema Local Government Area of the state, to report to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, State Headquarters, Owerri or to the nearest police station.

The statement read partly, "The Imo State Police Command has declared one Uju Promise Ekene Amadi (male) wanted. He is declared wanted for his involvement in a series of armed robbery/kidnapping cases in the state.

"He was also involved in the attack on policemen at Nipping Point, Nkaraha Junction, along Port-Harcourt road, Umuagwo, where one Inspector Oliver Nwaba was shot.

"On 22nd May, 2017, he was arrested by operatives of the command during which four counts were preferred against him and he was subsequently remanded in Owerri Prison while awaiting trial.

"He was later released by the court. The suspect has gone back to terrorising Nkaraha Junction and Ohaji in particular. Uju Promise Ekene Amadi is 26 years of age and hails from Umuna Umuagwo Mgbisi, Ohaji LGA, Imo State.

"He is of average height, speaks Igbo and English languages fluently. He remains wanted until arrested. Any person(s) with any useful information regarding the whereabouts of Uju Promise Ekene Amadi is requested to report to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, State Headquarters, Owerri, or to the nearest police station please."

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos have intercepted a 54- year- old single mother of four children. She was going on pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia with substances that tested positive for cocaine. The suspect who hails from Kwara State was apprehended during the outward screening of passengers on a Qatar Airline flight to Saudi Arabia after testing positive to drug ingestion. Preliminary investigation revealed that she ingested 32 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine weighing 330 grammes.
