AFTER HOLIDAYS,MAN DRIVES HOME TO UK FROM FRANCE ONLY TO FIND AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT STOWED AWAY IN HIS CAR TRUNK

A holidaymaker recently got home from France to find a 22-year-old Ethiopian illegal immigrant hiding in the boot of his Nissan. Dumbfounded Paul Edmunds, 59, was unpacking when he saw the man's trainers poking out from among his bags.

Paul said: "He asked if he was in England. I said 'Yes — well Wales, actually.' He made a prayer gesture and smiled." The man, who crept into the van at Calais, France, was arrested in Caersws, Wales.

Paul and wife Janet had stopped in the French port for a toilet break before taking the Eurotunnel shuttle back to Britain. But as Paul unpacked their Nissan Navara at home following a 4½ hour drive from Folkestone he spotted a strange pair of trainers.

Businessman Paul said: "When I saw a face I asked 'Where do you come from, Calais?' He didn't speak English but was able to ask if he was in England. I asked him again where he was from and he said 'Africa'.

He had a phone and was trying to contact someone here. I've never seen my wife's mouth open so wide as when she saw him step out of the boot."

Paul called the police and gave the stowaway some water and chocolate while they waited for them. The man was arrested and handed to immigration officials.The Home Office said the man will be dealt according to immigration rules.

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos have intercepted a 54- year- old single mother of four children. She was going on pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia with substances that tested positive for cocaine. The suspect who hails from Kwara State was apprehended during the outward screening of passengers on a Qatar Airline flight to Saudi Arabia after testing positive to drug ingestion. Preliminary investigation revealed that she ingested 32 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine weighing 330 grammes. The suspect who hawks tea and bread to earn a living in Lagos was found to have collected N300,000 to smuggle drugs to Saudi under the pretext of going for pilgrimage. PHOTO OF THE DECEASED BEEN TAKEN AWAY An Assistant Superintendent of Customs has allegedly committed suicide in Lungu Village, Gwarinpa, Abuja. The cause of the suicide was yet to be ascertained. Sources said the man, identified as Christian, 44, locked himself in a room and hung himself with a rope on Saturday. A source said the deceased, who was unmarried, was staying with his brother and was said to have been recently transferred to Lagos before the incident happened. The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, said the brother whom the deceased stayed with was at a barber’s shop when the incident happened. He said the man was confirmed dead at the Kubwa General Hospital. “Exhibits recovered include some drugs and knife.” Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was suffering from depression.

TERRORIST LEADER SHEKAU An “alarming” number of children, most of them girls, have been used by Boko Haram as suicide bombers in the first months of 2017, UNICEF said Wednesday. Experts said the number of children used in suicide attacks by Boko Haram surged to 27 in the first quarter of this year, compared to nine over the same period in 2016. POSTMORTEMS TO BE CARRIED OUT ON BODIES OF CANADIAN-AMERICAN COUPLE

By BBN Staff: Yesterday, the bodies of the missing Canadian-American couple were discovered near a cane field in Chan Chen village in the Corozal district. Reports to BBN is that an on site post-mortem examination is being conducted on the bodies at this time. According to these reports, the bodies are in an advanced state of decomposition. Canadian national, Francesca Matus, 52, and her boyfriend, American national, Drew Devoursney, 36, were last seen on Tuesday night leaving a bar in Corozal town. Matus was to fly to Canada, Wednesday morning. A friend who was to take Matus to the airport, American national Joseph Milholen, reported to police that he called her several times but to no avail. Milholen also called Devoursney but received no response. Police and volunteers had organized search parties from Wednesday through to Monday. Gunmen suspected to be militants on Thursday morning invaded Lagos State Model College, Igbo Nla, Epe, Lagos, abducting the principals and some students. The kidnappers were said to have stormed the school in the early hours when the students were at the morning assembly. The gunmen abducted the principal of the junior secondary school, Mr. Oyesola and Mr. Akirinmade who is the Principal of the senior secondary school. They also abducted some of the students.
