MOTHER ALLEGED OF RAPIST"S MURDER GETS SUPPORT FROM CIVIL SOCIETIES

A 55-year-old woman from Lady Frere in the Eastern Cape who rescued her daughter from three alleged rapists, says she still can't believe that one of them is a relative.

The woman allegedly killed one of her 27-year-old daughter's alleged rapists and wounded two others.

The incident happened a week ago.

The woman, who is currently out on bail of R500, says local women in the area live in fear and this has left them grappling with trust issues.

“This incident has left me questioning if people still have Ubuntu. When you are with your relative you expect him to be the one who helps you; not the one who harms you. So, this has left me confused. In this street, there are two elderly women who are victims of rape. The victims of such a crime in this village cannot even be counted and the perpetrators are known. They rape and kill, but they still live among us.”

Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it will charge the Eastern Cape woman for murder.

Natalie Kendrick, an individual who came across the story through social media and has since assisted in contributing for the legal services of the mother and daughter, says the pair is in need.

“When the story broke on Twitter, everybody was asking about how they could support her legal fees and that’s why I started the crowd funding page. It’s quite a scary thing that happened to both mother and the daughter and they also have other needs. They don’t have a lot of money and they just need some help.”
