FIRST WORLD CUP QUALIFICATION;PANAMA DECLARES HOLIDAY

Panama President Juan Carlos Varela declared a national holiday in celebration at the central American country's first ever qualification for the World Cup.

"It's a historic day for the country. Tomorrow (Thursday) will be a national holiday for public and private sector workers," Varela said on Twitter wedesday.

Panama came from behind to beat Costa Rica 2-1 on Tuesday night and book a ticket to Russia 2018.
The victory left them third in the CONCACAF area qualification behind Mexico and Costa Rica, and sensationally helped knock the United States out of contention.

Thousands of Panamanians celebrated long into the night in the capital Panama City as a cacophony of car horns greeted the historic news.

"Today the planets aligned, you must never lose faith," Varela had said on the Estadio Rommel Fernandez pitch in the capital following the match.
Although not Panama's national game, football is rapidly catching up with baseball and boxing as the country's favourite sport.

A teenage father with a tattoo covering half his face saying DEVAST8 has cried out over his struggle to get a job. 19 year old Mark Cropp , who was recently released from prison, put a plea out on Facebook saying his facial tattoo was stopping him securing employment. He also said his tattoo which is not gang affiliated- wasn 't planned and was not supposed to be quite as big. He got it a number of months ago while in prison serving a two year and three month sentence in the Otago Correction Facility for aggravated robbery, the NZ Herald reports. Cropp said he was going through a ' rough patch' with people trying to bully him at the time and believed people were more cautious around those with tattoos in prison. NIGERIAN GOVT REACTS TO RECENT KILLING OF A NIGERIAN IN SOUTH AFRICA

The Nigerian government has reacted to the killing of a Nigerian identified as Rasak Alao in South Africa. Recall that the Nigerian man, an auto mechanic, was on Thursday killed in South Africa after he was attacked alongside other Nigerians in Polokwane, Limpopo Province in South Africa. Reports indicated that the men were attacked following suspicions that they were into drug trafficking. Rasak Alao whose car was burnt lost his life in the attack which was carried out on him and five other Nigerians. In reaction, the Federal government issued a statement condemning the act and repeated attack on Nigerian nationals living in the country.
