FIRST WORLD CUP QUALIFICATION;PANAMA DECLARES HOLIDAY

Panama President Juan Carlos Varela declared a national holiday in celebration at the central American country's first ever qualification for the World Cup.

"It's a historic day for the country. Tomorrow (Thursday) will be a national holiday for public and private sector workers," Varela said on Twitter wedesday.

Panama came from behind to beat Costa Rica 2-1 on Tuesday night and book a ticket to Russia 2018.
The victory left them third in the CONCACAF area qualification behind Mexico and Costa Rica, and sensationally helped knock the United States out of contention.

Thousands of Panamanians celebrated long into the night in the capital Panama City as a cacophony of car horns greeted the historic news.

"Today the planets aligned, you must never lose faith," Varela had said on the Estadio Rommel Fernandez pitch in the capital following the match.
Although not Panama's national game, football is rapidly catching up with baseball and boxing as the country's favourite sport.

CULTISM ; 10 KILLED AS RIVAL CULT GROUPS CLASH

There was pandemonium in some part of Akure, the Ondo State capital   on Monday   night following the killing of no fewer than ten people by suspected cult members . LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that no fewer than ten suspected cultists had been murdered in the last three days when rival groups engaged gunfire on themselves. It was also learnt that the rival cult groups, Eiye and Aiye confraternity have been at logger head in the last few days. The killings occurred in some streets of the state capital such as Obanla, Roadblock, Adebowale junction and the last clash took place  on Monday  night at Nepa area of the ancient town. Ms Hansen's family said they were shocked and devastated by her death. A 20-year-old man has been charged following a fatal hit and run that killed a Melbourne nurse, Victorian police have confirmed. The 20-year-old was arrested at an address in Fulton Road in Blackburn South on Thursday evening. Two persons have been confirmed dead with three others seriously injured following an ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along Damaturu, Biu road Sunday afternoon. A military source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the insurgents had buried IEDs along the highway. It was gathered that the travelers, who took off from Damaturu on their way to Biu, were ambushed some 60 kilometres to their destination. According to the source, the militants opened fire indiscriminately on the travelers and that in an attempt to escape, the IEDs went off killing two persons on the spot. Another report said three people injured from the attack were rushed to the Damaturu specialists' hospital by security forces on patrol along the road.
