WRESTLING CHAMP POWER UTI DETAINED OVER WIFE'S DEATH

Nigerian wrestling champion Power Uti has been arrested by the Police in Lagos over death of his 38-year-old wife Toyin.

Toyin reportedly died in their home at Ilupeju.

It was gathered that the ring champion took his wife to a church for spiritual help, after he discovered she was dead on Monday morning.

Toyin's corpse has been taken to the Isolo general hospital morgue while her four children have been placed in the care of their grandmother.

Confirming Uti's arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, Famous Cole, said the wrestler was being detained at the Ilupeju Police station.

He added that the case would be transferred to the Criminal Investigative Department, Panti, on Thursday.

Toyin, the mother of Uti's  four children, was a full-time housewife.

They were married for 10 years before her death.

A group of 40 Ethiopian nationals charged with being in Kenya illegally broke down and cried uncontrollably in court on Thursday after a magistrate ordered for their repatriation upon completing a one month jail term or pay a collective fine of Sh800,000 imposed on them. "Please have mercy on us. We are jobless and poor. We leave in abject poverty," the foreigners spoke loudly then " sat down and begun to cry after the magistrate imposed the sentence." Forty of the 67 who were accused of flouting the immigration rules pleaded guilty to a charge of being in the country unlawfully. Each was fined Sh20,000 or serve one month in jail. A young teenage couple accused of snatching their newborn baby from hospital have been briefly reunited with their daughter after five days apart. Fatai Owoseni Lagos State Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni has warned Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the state police command to shun bribery or leave the state, saying that some of them are on the payroll of fraudsters. Egypt on Thursday blocked 21 websites, including Qatari news network Al Jazeera and Islamist-affiliated platforms, following in the footsteps of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Among those blocked since Wednesday evening is the website of the now-banned Muslim Brotherhood, Ikhwan Online, according to a report in the privately owned Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper. All websites blocked contain material that “support terrorism and extremism as well as publish lies,” a security source was quoted as saying. The Arabic edition of the Huffington Post was blocked, although the English-language version was accessible. The independent Cairo-based Mada Masr was another site blocked. The federal government says it is ready for its first major prosecutions of suspects linked to Boko Haram insurgency. Trials of the suspects will take place at a military base. The defendants have all been arrested and detained since the start of insurgency in the country's northeast in 2009. The Justice ministry announced last month that some 1,670 detainees would go on trial at a civilian court at a military base in Kainji, in the central state of Niger. A further 651 others at the Giwa barracks in the capital of the northeastern state of Borno, Maiduguri, would then be tried. A government source involved in the process told newsmen that defence and prosecution lawyers have arrived early to prepare for the cases. The former governor of Osun state and the Osun West senator, Isiaka Adeleke, is reported to have died of an overdose of painkillers. The drugs were administered to him by an unqualified medical technician. The Edo Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aisosa Amadasun, and four others, have been brought before a Benin High Court, for allegedly committing contract fraud to the tune of N1.5bn, NAN reports.
