The suspected Stockholm truck attacker Rakhmat Akilov, a 39-year-old Uzbek, has admitted committing a "terrorist crime" by ploughing into pedestrians on a busy street, killing four people and injuring 15 others. Arrested only hours after Friday's attack, Akilov appeared on Tuesday in a special heavily guarded high-security courtroom wearing a thick green hoodie and keeping his head bowed. POLICE CHIEF FATAI OWOSENI Lagos State police boss, Fatai Owoseni, yesterday disclosed that preliminary investigation conducted on the death of Rear Admiral Daniel Ikoli revealed suicide. Although the police boss said detectives were expanding their investigation with the cooperation of naval authorities, he revealed that three bullets were fired at the home of late Rear Admiral on the day he died. Owoseni, who made the disclosure yesterday at a briefing held at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, said while investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ikoli’s death was ongoing, detectives were putting together exhibits recovered at the crime scene. Ikoli, a two-star general of the Nigerian Navy, died in his residence at No. 8b, Roycroft Street, Apapa, Lagos State, last Wednesday. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it has stumbled on two bank accounts containing a joint sum of N2bn suspected to be the proceeds of crime. The EFCC said in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, that the money belongs to a former deputy governorship candidate in Niger State.The commission, however, did not reveal the identity of the candidate. According to the anti-graft agency, the money was found based on a tip-off from a whistle-blower.The EFCC added that the suspect was on the run as well as the account officer who was in charge of the accounts. The statement read in part, “A tip-off by a whistle-blower on Tuesday led to another discovery by the EFCC of a staggering sum of N4bn suspected to be proceeds of crime. The Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello has been accused of ordering the arrest and detention of a renowned blogger and fierce critic, Austin Okai by the anti-robbery squad. According to a  civil rights organisation, Kogi Renaissance Group (KRG) the activist was said to have been picked on Sunday, April 9, 2017 by security operatives in an eatery in Utako area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where he had gone to eat with some friends and thereafter whisked to Lokoja.
