Concerned Nigerian Groups Cite Impunity In Arrest Of Kogi Gov's Critic Austin Okai

By

We have received reports of the arrest & detention of Mr. Austin Okai, a well-known critic of the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, by officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force.

2. Mr. Okai’s arrest,  detention & subsequent transfer to Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, has been confirmed by the Officer in Charge of SARS in Abuja. Mr. Okai was arrested by a SARS team led by ACP Kolo.

3. We condemn Mr. Okai’s arrest & detention in its entirety. Mr. Okai’s arrest is the latest chapter in a series of attempts to clamp down on free speech in Nigeria.

4. There are concerns over Mr. Okai’s safety & wellbeing. A few weeks ago, he was attacked & physically assaulted by political thugs. This arrest shows a probable link between that assault & the current government of Kogi State.

5. We call for Mr. Okai’s  unconditional release & an end to the absurd persecution of real & perceived political enemies.

6. We also call for governments all over Nigeria to show greater respect & regard for the rights of the Nigerian people as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

7. God bless Nigeria.

Signed:

Alleged corruption: You lack power to demand Magu’s probe – Court tells whistleblower IBRAHIM MAGU An FCT High Court sitting in Jabi has told a whistleblower and lawyer, George Uboh, and his organization, George Uboh Whistleblower Network, that they lack the legal capacity to decide for the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, who to prosecute. The plaintiffs with suit number M/4853/17 had sought an order to compel the AGF to investigate Acting-chairman of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu and his predecessors in office for alleged corruption. Justice Abba-Bello Muhammad, struck out the application after listening to the submission of the applicants’ counsel, Mr Frank Tietie. According to the judge, the applicants have no power under the provisions of the law to decide for the AGF who to prosecute. “I have examined the application of the applicants seeking an order of the court to commence an action of mandamus on the res...

UNRELIABLE NIGERIAN GOVT ; URGENT ATTENTION TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION OF NIGERIAN PRISONERS IN GHANA AND IN DIASPORA

I usually do not write, talk or contribute to whatever it is that has to do with prisoners generally. Why because, even though I am not perfect,I do not have a criminal record and I know how very careful I mind myself, the law and people in general to avoid even been invited as witness in any case, talk more of been a plaintiff or accused. But the post below has touched and drawn my attention to the suffering of the people involved even though I do not know them and in as much as I can not authenticate the post or source,I know and believe there are lots of Nigerians and other nationals in this very situation around Africa and the world. My concentration here is on Nigerians,in as much as I hardly feel for criminals (not saying all prisoners are guilty),we have a country very terrible, from our heartless shadow boxing pretender of a president Buhari to almost all of our senators and representatives nation wide, who abandon and ignore their very duties to serve Nigerians and instead concentra...

LYING LIE MOHAMMED BY FEMI FANI-KAYODE

LYING LIE MOHAMMED BY FEMI FANI-KAYODE This is not the time for preaching peace when the enemy is ready to destroy the world. To forgive Islamic terrorists is up to God but to send them to see God is my duty” – President Vladimir Putin. Is there any sane person that disagrees with Putin ? Evidently there are a few people in high places in Nigeria that do. The greatest evil that plagues our land today are not Boko Haram or the Fulani miliitias. The greatest evil are those so-called moderate Muslims and practising Christians who pretend that the terrorists don’t exist, who turn a blind eye to their evil and who sit back silently and watch them. Consider the foul-breathed, pamper-wearing lying Lai Mohammed, Buhari’s Minister of Information. He falls squarly into that category. The other day he claimed that the assertion that Muslims kill Christians in Nigeria “is a fallacy”. This man is nothing but scum. He is filth. He is sick. He is an unrepentant and pernicious liar. He is the low...

NIGERIA'S POPULATION OUTGROWING NATION'S ECONOMY

By
Image
The managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, has stated that the economy of some West African nations, including Nigeria, is not growing at the same rate as its population. She made this statement on Thursday while addressing the press at the ongoing International Monetary Fund annual meetings holding in Washington. She said, "Sub Saharan Africa (which Nigeria is part of one) is one region of the world where growth is way suboptimal. Those countries 2.5 percent. That is too low for the demographic expansion of the region. "There are different countries if we are to look Rwanda it is a different situation from that of Togo and Ghana is going to be different from Mozambique and so on. "It is still to low for the demographic growth. For that region to take advantage of the demographic dividend of all the young people who are coming up and trying to have access to the economy and have a job, it is too low." Lagarde said the organisation w...
