PRISON HOLDING IAN HUNTLEY AND LEVI BELLFIELD BEGINS CHEMICALLY CASTRATING SEX OFFENDERS

The high-security prison, filled with notorious inmates like Ian Huntley, Levi Bellfield and Peter Sutcliffe, are offering the treatment in an attempt to control their sexual urges using hormones.

Experts hope the NHS run procedure will not only curb their twisted compulsions – but also keep them out of trouble while locked up.

The infamous jail was chosen by Professor Don Grubin, who set up the programme due to its reputation for holding the highest risk sex offenders in the UK.
Professor Grubin said: “Their level of sexual arousal is so high they find it difficult to engage in psychological treatment programmes.

“In others their level of arousal may be the cause of them getting themselves in trouble in the prison.”

Huntley and Bellfield have both been offered the scheme, but have not signed up for the first six trial places.

Chemical castration, achieved by giving inmates a drug which reduces testosterone levels, has been rolled out in six prisons – offering a total of 64 places.

In Nottingham’s HMP Whatton, 92 of the prison’s 851 male sex offenders have undergone the treatment over the last seven years.

Prof Grubin added: “The principle is to enable sex offenders to better manage their sexual arousal and behaviour.

“It is run on medical grounds and not as risk management – although reduction in risk is typically a beneficial side effect.”

It comes after reports Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe held a party to “celebrate” the 36th anniversary of his arrest with fellow murderers.

Sutcliffe, 70, allegedly handed out soft drinks, Ritz crackers and crisps to those in attendance, which included child-killers Ian Huntley and Levi Bellfield.

A source said: “Some of the most evil men the UK has ever seen were in that cell that day. Sutcliffe was dishing out the crackers and the fizzy pop. It was sinister to have them in the same prison cell.”

However relations between Sutcliffe and Soham murderer Huntley have since turned sour after a furious row between the pair at HMP Frankland in Durham.

In the heated exchange the Yorkshire Ripper reportedly called Huntley, 43, a “child killing b*****d’ and told him to 'p*** off”.
