Mr. Olajide Fasakin, an aide to the embattled former Chairman of the defunct Presidential Task Force on Pension Reform, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, has said that his boss was in hiding so as not to be killed. According to Fasakin, Maina took the measure after escaping several assassination attempts from perceived enemies. While speaking on Channels Television, Fasakin insisted that he did not know the whereabouts of the embattled former pension reform chairman, but added that Maina was shot at five times in the past but was saved by his bulletproof car. The many victims of police harassment around Nigeria have opened up on how they were tortured by the law enforcement agents. Despite receiving training on human rights of citizens, officers of the Nigeria Police Force have continued to unlawfully detain, torture, and harass members of the public, victims of police abuse told a human rights panel in Lagos. The panel, which comprised members of the National Human Rights Commission and Human Rights Law Services, held a public hearing on police abuses in Nigeria on Monday. Over 30 participants were in attendance including the Network of Police Reforms in Nigeria, Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action, and other civil society organizations. The police command in Imo State on Monday paraded members of a syndicate that specialised in stealing and selling children. The state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike said the gang members operated in Imo and Enugu states and had committed many atrocities. Former President Goodluck Jonathan has asked a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to order former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, to deposit N1billion with the court to cover for his travelling expenses before he can testify in his case. Jonathan also asked the court to set aside the subpoena ordered to be served on him by the court to come and testify in the corruption suit against Metuh.
